Help with 'Interactive Logon Process'

Last week I got an error when my computer restarted that says that the interactive logon process has failed.

I have read everything I can find to fix this and nothing is working for me. I have tried a startup repair and it found no errors. I have run the chkdsk and nothing... I have tried a system restore but had no restore points....

not sure what else I can do... seems like this is a very common problem but i just cant get past it with what ive read.....

someone please help so i can recover files. Thanks
 
Use the system file checker.

From Windows:

sfc /scannow

From Vista DVD:

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows\
