My OneDrive storage has been filling up much faster than I expected, and after checking the account, I noticed that many files may have been uploaded more than once. This seems to have happened because I use OneDrive across multiple devices and occasionally upload folders manually instead of relying completely on synchronization.
The difficult part is identifying which files are actually duplicates. I have documents, photos, videos, PDFs, ZIP archives, and backup files stored in different folders. Some of them have slightly different names even though the actual content appears to be identical.
I initially thought about downloading everything and comparing the files manually, but that doesn't seem practical. There are too many files, and downloading the entire OneDrive would also take unnecessary storage on my computer.
I’m therefore looking for a way to scan the OneDrive account directly and identify duplicate files before deleting anything. I would especially prefer a solution that lets me preview the detected files so I can decide which copy should be retained.
While researching this, I found the SysInfo OneDrive Duplicate File Finder. It appears to scan OneDrive folders and identify duplicate documents, images, videos, audio files, archives, and other file types. The Smart Grouping feature also categorizes duplicates using factors such as name, size, content, and file type.
Another feature that looks useful is selective deletion. Instead of automatically removing everything, I understand that users can review duplicate items and either move them to the OneDrive Bin or delete them permanently. That seems safer for a large account where some duplicate-looking files may still need to be checked.
