I have an old OST file from a previous Outlook setup, but I no longer have access to the original Outlook profile. The Exchange account associated with the mailbox has also been deactivated, so simply opening the OST through Outlook doesn't seem to be an option anymore.
The file contains some important emails and attachments that I need to review. I initially assumed I could just import the OST into another Outlook profile, but after researching the format, it seems that OST files are closely associated with the original Exchange or Microsoft 365 account and aren't as straightforward to open as PST files.
I don't want to reactivate an old account just to access a few years of archived messages. At the same time, I don't want to modify the original OST while trying different methods because the file may be needed later for documentation.
Has anyone found a reliable way to view an OST directly without recreating the original Outlook or Exchange environment?
While looking for options, I came across the SysInfo OST Viewer Tool. It claims to open and view OST files without requiring Microsoft Outlook, Exchange Server, or an active Microsoft 365 profile. It also supports viewing multiple OST and PST files, which could be useful because I have more than one archive.
What interests me most is the ability to preview emails along with attachments, contacts, calendars, tasks, notes, and other mailbox items. It also provides search options based on sender, recipient, subject, date, and attachments.
For my situation, I mainly need OST File Viewer functionality rather than a complete mailbox migration. I want to inspect the old data first and determine which messages need to be retained or exported.
