I have an IMAP mailbox containing a large number of messages and attachments. Some emails appear more than once, so I am looking for a way to create an archive without carrying unnecessary duplicate messages into the output.
Does anyone know whether duplicate emails can be identified automatically during the IMAP backup process?
For large mailbox archives, duplicate detection can be useful before exporting the data. One tool I found, SysInfo IMAP Backup Tool, provides a duplicate-removal option that compares fields such as Subject, From, To, and Body to identify repeated messages.
It also provides different attachment-handling options. Depending on the requirement, attachments can be included with emails, saved separately, or excluded from the backup.
The software supports multiple output formats, including PST, MBOX, EML, MSG, PDF, CSV, JSON, DOC, and DOCX. It also supports migration of selected IMAP mailbox data to Microsoft 365, Gmail, and Google Workspace.
For a large mailbox, combining folder selection, date filtering, and duplicate removal seems more practical than exporting everything and cleaning the archive manually afterward.
