Installing on a new hard drive

I've ordered a new hard drive. I'm going to need to install Vista Home Basic again, but I think that the recovery software won't do a new installation. Correct me if I'm wrong. However there was a note about Microsoft providing the files to do that. Would anyone be willing to tell me more about that.

Thanks!

If you have the media from the manufacturer then yes. You can install Vista with that. But if you are talking about the media from us here for the Recovery CD. Then no you cant use that for install.

The disk that my laptop asked me to make myself but I didn't... Are there any other options? I think that Acer will send me one for $20, so if that's the only option, then that's fine.

Well you could get one via the internet using some means. But it would just be better to get them from Acer.

You can borrow a friend's Vista installation disk and use it with the product key that came with your machine - that's a perfectly legal alternative.
