before i had to exclaim to the world how ignorant i am, i finally figured out, with the help of your excellent instructions, how to run easy recovery essentials from a boot cd on my dell inspiron e1705 laptop with windows xp. my problem is solved and it works like a champ.

i do have another issue and hope this is the right place to bring it up. earlier today i downloaded the easy usb creator lite to another computer of mine that is running windows 8.1. everytime i tried running easy usb creator lite.exe, i immediatly got a message from windows that something happened and easy usb creator would have to close. i had a usb drive installed and selected. was i doing something wrong or is there a setting in operating system that needs to be changed. i dont have a usb drive with me here but hopefully you can give me some help info to get me through this as well.

thanks in advance,

radome

If https://neosmart.net/wiki/?s=usb doesn't help best email support on that one I think, however someone may jump in here with more knowledge than I. EasyRE@NeoSmart.net
(All EasyRE requests have to go there anyway, there's no support for it here).
Have you tried right-clicking the downloaded file and selecting Run as Administrator? How to set that option up is outlined here: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/9564-run-administrator-windows-8-a.html and how to add the option to the right-click menu: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ator-add-remove-context-menu-windows-7-a.html

Apologies but this board is new and we are still getting used to it so I had to amend the above first link, hope it doesn't confuse you.
Another excellent help for Win 8.x is this tool which brings back the Win 7 start menu and defaults the OS to open with the Desktop App first.

radome, I'm still getting used to the new board as I stated and had to amend several of the above links with an Edit button that doesn't always work. If any are wrong or confusing let me know. My apologies.

Perhaps the best link is http://j.mp/EREUSB2

However, radome, from your post I can't tell if Easy USB Creator crashes when you first launch it or when you try to convert a file.

As this question is actually about our free Easy USB Creator and not actually about EasyRE, it's probably fine for discussion here.

no worries. thank you for your replies. i will definitely go to the links you have provided. i'm sure i will learn something. thanks and sorry about the confusion. you know how us new guys are.
