no sata on boot

This is my system
MOBO Elitegroup 945GCT-M2/1333 v 1.0
CPU Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.80 Ghz
RAM 1Gb RAM DDR2 (Corsair Value Select)
BIOS AMI v 02.58
HD Hitachi 160Gb S-ATA

I know it's not great but, up until recently it worked fine. However now it doesn't see the SATA drive on bootup , nor is it in the BIOS. I got an error message - MCH is operating with DDR2 667/CL5 in single-channel mode. Would this have anything to do with it. I tried re-installing windows xp (SP2) but it can't find the SATA. I've checked all the connections but it still doesn't help.

Guys can you please help?

The error message has nothing to do with it.

Have you tried reseting your BIOS settings? Did you try connecting the SATA disk to a different power cable? Try a different SATA data cable?
 
I've had systems that lost communication with a HDD.
Try removing /reattaching all the connectors several times to clean up the contacts.
