Nvidia GPU Drivers Wont Update In My Main Vista Boot Only

The weirdest thing...I just discovered this in the last few minutes as I hadn't even tried to boot into Win 7 all day. It wont do - getting a black screen stating it can't proceed and something about..

My EasyBCD setup looks to be OK..

We've seen this many times - another MS screw-up. The Vista bootloader can't boot 7, only the other way around.

EasyBCD | Re-create boot files

should do the trick.


Addendum:


errrr no, it may not fix it. It might end up re-copying the same Vista bootloader. Doesn't hurt to try, though.


You can fix it yourself by replacing BOOTMGR on the boot partition with a BOOTMGR possibly found in either \Windows\Boot\ or one of its children on the 7 drive.

Thanks. I tried the first option already and there is no BOOTMGR in that section that I can find, hidden and system files visible.
It's maddening to be able to access the partitions yet not to boot into them. I vaguely remember this happening ages ago with XP/Vista and I did something with the recovery console from the Vista DVD, but I could be wrong.

I'll do some more digging online...and in my memory banks. I probably printed out the instructions somewhere, but trying to find them is another matter.

Thanks everyone for your help. I finally plucked up the courage, inserted my Win 7 SP1 DVD and restarted and using the Repair option Windows repaired some things on its own without me prompting it to, but I couldn't yet boot into Windows 7, so restarted and this time waited until the automatic scan for installed Windows versions had finished and chose Startup Repair, it fixed something and said the I should return to that menu after a reboot so did it all again and hey presto, I now have my quad boot back safe and sound.

This is what my EasyBCD menu looks like now and I noticed an immediate change in the BCD ID numbers which previously were all the same (hence my problem):

By the way, this served another useful purpose....I discovered that my Win 7 SP1 DVD was badly scratched so will do another. Thank goodness it worked regardless.
