I currently have a functioning XP/Vista dual boot configuration.
I would like to remove the XP install and reclaim that hard drive space under the Vista partition.

My debug data:

Code:
Windows Boot Manager

Can I do what I wish, and if so, would someone please walk me through the process step by step.

Thanks in advance.

Hi ibdbbd, welcome to NeoSmart Technologies.

Delete the XP entry in EasyBCD.
Format the XP drive.
Resize the Vista partition.

All done

Similar situation, paranoid user

I think I'm in the same boat, but I'm scared that I'll brick my system accidentally. I was dual booting XP and Vista (off a striped RAID array) with Vista in the F partition and XP in the C partition. Somewhere down the line my XP partition fell apart, but I'm comfortable enough with Vista that I'd like to kill XP entirely. How do I delete XP's C:/ partition entirely and move the Vista partition from F to C? Not sure where the ntldr files are, which is the part that scares me the most. Here's my debug data:

Hi Velcroman, welcome to NeoSmart Technologies.

Probably the easist (and safest) thing to do is delete your XP partition (drive C:\) and restructure/resize to your liking (with a good partition manager like Acronis or GParted).

Stick your Vista DVD in the drive, boot from it, and choose "Advanced Options" | "Repair Options" to have it get it booting again.

I have a question about this. ibdbbd has his boot files on what is the d: drive in Vista (as do I), which is the C: drive when booting in XP. If you format the XP drive, aren't you going to wipe out the Vista boot files??

If the boot folder is on the XP drive, yep you will.

Not to worry though.

1) Use a bootable partition manager to delete the XP partition and resize the Vista drive.
2) Boot from the Vista DVD -> Advanced Options -> Automated Repair
That'll make Vista boot again.

Cheers & welcome to NST, Bruce!
