Problem with the external hard drive

My external hard drive has stopped working. The disc is no longer readable . When I connect the disc to my computer, the system asks me to format it.

There are very important files on the disc.

Does anyone know how to help me?

Look online for the freeware Testdisk.
It can help reconstruct the MBR partition map on a corrupted drive, and may enable you to retrieve data subsequently if the drive is not too badly damaged.

I think the file system might be corrupted. Before formatting, try using data recovery software to retrieve your important files. And then try troubleshooting.

I have connected the drive to other computers running Windows and Linux. I even took the drive out of the box and connected it directly via the SATA interface, but it didn't work.
I managed to find a solution on the Internet.

I followed the steps in this article step by step.

Data Recovery Software For RAW File System

And yes, make copies of important files (discs) for the future.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me!!!!.
