Remove failed XP install over W2k and subsequent dual boot

I have a laptop running Windows 2k Pro. I tried to upgrade to XP, which failed, leaving me with W2k intact and working, but a dual boot prompt at start-up.

I have since changed my mind about upgrading that drive to XP. I purchased a bigger disk, cloned the first drive to one partition and am planning to install XP on the other partition, leaving me with an actual, working dual boot condition(hopefully!).

Will the remnants of the first, failed XP install give me any trouble when I install onto the new partition?

Thanks a bunch.

Hi IT,

Welcome to NeoSmart Technologies.

Open up C:\Boot.ini and remove the XP line. You shouldn't have any problems in the future

Good luck, and let us know how it goes
