Stopped at kbd_enter+0x35: movl $0, kdb_why

As you can see from the title... this is the error i am getting trying to run the easy recovery from usb.
Error resulting in requirement of usb: Disk Read Error on main drive where the OS is saved. This occured after (ironically) a Chkdsk /f was run before startup.

Steps taken to reach error (and in turn need for aid):
1: F12 on startup (Toshiba)
2: USB
3: Try hdd0,0: FAT32
4: GNU GRUB version 2.00-13ubuntu3
From this menu i have tried both Easy Recovery Essentials AND VGA Mode
5: Error.
KDB: enter: panic

Then refer to title for next line.
I have access to db>

Computer specs:
Cpu type: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500
Cpu speed: 2.3ghz
HDD/SDD: WDC WD5000BPVT-00HXZT1 (S2)
ODD: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C (S4)
Memory is 2gb
System Bios ver: 1.2
EC ver: 1.1

I am booting using, as aforementioned, a USB, running EasyRecovery with the Windows Vista Recovery ISO provided (at price) by Neosmart (and associates).
I followed the steps as provided in the Create A Bootable Disk/Drive guide on neosmart.net

Any insight into what the everloving heck is going on?
 
I'm trying to fix an old emachines Windows XP install using a slow burn CD created using ImgBurn and it stops at exactly the same error
"Stopped at kdb_enter +0x35: movl $0kdb_why"
