When it says in the trouble shooting guide there should only be one copy of "NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM, and BOOT.INI files on your system ' does that mean if u have xp pro and xp pro 64 that you should remove one set of those files and if so from which one ?

Could this explain why I cannot boot into one of the xp systems ? thnx richard
 
No - you can actually have them all over the place, the system will boot from the active partition and that set will be used, the others will be ignored.
I think the advice to only have one, is to avoid confusion for the human involved, the OS doesn't mind.
