Trouble With Triple Booting With Vista

Hi everyone,

I have installed Windows Vista RC1 build 5600 on my Dell computer. But now, I want to boot back to Windows XP. I googled and found EasyBCD. But EasyBCD and vista bootloder has failed to boot Windows XP. It just keepp saying I have a problem with NTLDR. I have no idea with this stuff. I have searched this forum and some of the post said I need to copy the "boot.ini, /ntldr". I don't know where are they.

Here is my drive configure (All bootable):
Disk one: Windows XP (J), Mac OS x86(?)
Disk two: Windows Vista(C)

Here is my EasyBCD configure:

Actually, I cannot open the file "C:/boot.ini" and "ntldr" Do I need to download them in somewhere else?

Thank you in advance.

Hey, welcome to NeoSmart Technologies.

Have you enabled the viewing of hidden and system files?

If you hadn't, that's probably the reason why you couldn't see/open them.
Are these files on drive J: or on drive C:?

You'll need to change the drive letter for XP from J: to C: - try it.

Actually, I have enable to view those hidden files in Folder Option but I still can't find them, either the boot.ini or the ntldr. They are supposed to be in the root, right? Even I use the "Run" window and type "C:/boot.ini", it still gives error. But I can change the boot order. It means that the "boot.ini" does exists.

If I use J: for XP, the boot loader automatically reboot my computer and then let me select the OS again.
If I use C: for XP, loader will simply give error message, i.e. somewhat like ntldr cannot be found.

I have XP and Vista in separate drive, will EasyBCD still work? or I have something missed?

Thanks

OK, that's not good.
EasyBCD works great no matter where what is and when it was put there.

But the problem here is that ntldr and boot.ini don't exist.
It won't work to just copy NTLDR to your drive, because there's a bunch of other releated files that need to be there too (such as ntdetect, bootsect, etc.)

Do you have another XP PC you have access to from where you can copy the needed files? We'll walk you through it if you like/do.
