I know these are technically older drivers, but so are the ones I'm currently using and I'm not having any problems.

Give them a shot.

What is the best way to install these drivers? I tried overwriting the installed drivers, but I ran into boot problems and had to do a system restore.

Would a clean install be better?

I was never able to resolve this issue, Guess I'll wait until windows 7.
Unless anyone has any additional suggestions? ^_^

If everything you've tried (including uninstalling/reinstalling) doesn't work, than a re-install would probably be best.
