Vista Bootloader does not show at boot!

heylo,

i grabbed the "c:/boot" folder from a vista installation disc
and placed it in my root c:/ drive.

i have XP and OSX installed on 2 separate partitions but on the
same physical drive.

i had OSX installed first and then XP.
at present, my computer boots straight into XP
without bringing up the Vista bootloader.

i've followed the directions for EasyBCD allowing it to repair
the BCD. i've also tried having EasyBCD reinstall the bootloader to the MBR.
XP sees my OSX partition as drive H:\

here are my current settings:

There are a total of 2 entries listed in the Vista Bootloader.
Bootloader Timeout: 5 seconds.
Default OS: Windows XP

Entry #1

Name: Windows XP
BCD ID: {default}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \NTLDR

Entry #2

Name: OSX 10.4.9
BCD ID: {b67cebce-c4b9-11dc-baf7-000f3d4be643}
Drive: H:\
Bootloader Path: \NST\nst_mac.mbr

thanx for any help!

I'm not clear on why you moved C:\Boot\ or what actually happens when you restart - can you explain that a bit more?

here's some more info.

1 hard drive. 2 partitions. no other hard drives connected.
installed OSX first on first partition.
then installed XP on second partition.

acquired vista bootloader (ie c:\boot) from a vista installation.

used EasyBCD to set up BCD.

when i boot, i don't get the vista bootloader.
it just boots straight into XP.

i have tried lengthening the bootloader timeout to 30 seconds.

Can't find vista bootloader

No, what he is saying is that he installed vista first (without the correct preperations) then installed XP, and the XP installation killed the Vista bootloader. I did the same a while back.

Hiya c_robertson, welcome to NST.

Usually in that case the Vista bootloader (though it doesn't show) would still contain the original entry for Windows Vista... doesn't look like that's the case above; but anything is possible.

Yes this will always be the case. As XP doesnt use the BCD (Vista boot loader) and will always over write it when you install XP after Vista. That is why you have to use the Vista DVD or the Vista Recovery CD that we have up in the Wiki to restore the BCD.

XP uses boot.ini which is why when you install Vista after XP and Vista becomes the boot partition you have to move the boot.ini, NTLDR and NTDETECT files over to the boot partition.
