Hi

I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 running 32 bit Vista.
On start up I get Windows Error Recovery. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or
software change might be the cause.
Choose Launch start up repair I get Windows is loading files Then a black box flashes on screen then i get a blue screen.
On trying to enter safemode I get loading windows files and it hanges on \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys
I didn't get a Vista disc with purchase.
I down loaded a recovery disk from neosmart.
On using disk I get to Startup Repair is checking your system for problems.
Attempting repairs. Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete.
Iv'e left it for 24 hours and nothing has changed.
Can someone please help me.

Thanks.

This information si strictly for legitimate HP owners who have purchased a laptop with an OEM version of VISTA/XP and have lost or ruined their original recovery discs.

Set the folder options to allow viewing of hidden files and folders and show known file extensions.

Search for the following file: hpcd.sys

There will be 2 copies,1 in C:\WINDOWS\SMINST and 1 in E:\

Delete both copies of the hpcd.sys files.

Run the HP recovery disk creation utility.

Use a 3. party system like EasyBCD, Hirens BootCD, Winternals etc. for to boot. After that you should have access to your HDD and be able for to delete that files from location as posted above.
