Vista, then XP help

Hello everyone, my friend wanted me to fix his computer full of viruses. It was set up this way:

First off it's an HP computer, then, it had both Vista and XP, with the bootmenu (Vista's) and all. Three partitions, one HDD: C:\(WinVista), I:\(WinXP) and H:\(HP RECOVERY).

The XP installation was so infected I had to backup all their documents and reformat to to a new, more updated version (they still had SP2 and a crapload of updates to get). So I did it, and all went fine, except now, only XP boots, no menu. I tried easybcd, it said it couldnt find any boot files on any drive, so I popped a Win7 disc and did a startup repair. Still, only XP booted, but this time easyBCD said nothing, and I could add an entry for Vista, which didn't work either.

There are boot files on the HP partition, boot.ini goes like this:
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons
At this point, I have no clue what to do, could anyone help me?

Post Scriptum: I tried messing with the boot order in the bios, no luck there.

Do the Vista "startup repair" at least three times. It has several thing to fix and only seems capable of doing one per pass.
