Windows 7: Boot Manager Fails

Hello All,

I have a computer running windows 7 on a four-year-old computer, it was working perfectly until my family (who are down for Christmas) held down the power button during a shutdown (perhaps an automatic update) to turn it off.

As a result, the standard bios boot sequence run and the 'Starting Windows' screen appears for about 4 or 5 seconds at which point the computer restarts and goes into a boot loop with every second boot going automatically into the Windows 7 'Launch Startup Repair' which fails to fix any problems.

To attempt to fix this I have tried the following:

1. Attempted to load with 'Last known good configuration':
Result: No change, continued into boot loop

2. Attempted to perform a system restore:
Result: Worked successfully for a 'critical update' from < 12 hours before the computer failed to restart, however, the critical update automatically ran again restarting the computer which put the issue back into a boot loop. After this, all other restore points fail to restore successfully

3. Attempted to boot into various 'Safe Mode' options (basic, with networking, with command prompt):
Result: Safe mode never made it past the files loading screen (http://0.tqn.com/d/pcsupport/1/0/Y/4/-/-/safe-mode-windows-7-3.jpg)

4. Allowed the automatic repair to run > 3 times, as per (Suggestion 1): http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Windows+Bootloader+from+the+DVD with all commands returning successful where applicable
Result: No change, continued into boot loop

5. Executed a manual repair of the windows bootloader, as per (Suggestion 2): http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Windows+Bootloader+from+the+DVD with all commands returning successful where applicable
Result: No change, continued into boot loop

6. Executed a 'Nuclear Holocaust' to do a full manual rebuilt of the bootload, as per (Suggestion 3): http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Windows+Bootloader+from+the+DVD with all commands returning successful where applicable
Result: Computer boots into 'Windows Boot Manager' screen with the error message: Windows failed to start, 0xc000000f (http://www.technoish.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/winload_exe_vista_missing_or_corrupt.jpg)

I have left it at this point, with the above error

Assumptions:

  • Hardware is still functioning correctly as it was working correctly 24 hours ago, supported by:
    • Able to execute basic shell commands with successful responses (e.g. DIR command)

Additional Items to Note:
  • Startup Repair responds with all successful error codes (0x0)
  • Root cause found response is: Startup Repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem
  • System has always been a single Windows installation on C:\

Please let me know if you require any additional information about the setup, thank you in advance for any and all help. I am in a bit of a difficult position as my computers last complete backup was from 9 months ago.
