Windows 7 recovery

Hi, I am a not great with all the computer lingo, but basically my laptop got stuck on the blue welcome screen yesterday, it takes a good 1/2 an hour and eventually the recovery window comes up, when I hit startup repair it keeps going for hours & hours and nothing happens....so I just copied a recovery disc and it isn't even reading it.....I have checked the disc on another computer and it is reading it fine so there isn't an issue with that, is there anything else I can try?
 
If it works on another PC, then your CD drive is damaged and there isn't anything you can do about it..
