Windows 7 repair

I am using easyBCD to dual boot Windows 8.1 and windows 7. The 8.1 came on a new computer mounted on an SSD (C:smile: and the windows 7 is on the hard disk of my old computer now mounted as E: in the new computer. When I first booted into Windows 7 I received messages that the OS was trying to install new drivers but because I had no mouse or keyboard working I could not respond and finally I shut down. Windows 7 will still run from the dual boot menu but without the keyboard or mouse operating. I would like to repair the windows 7 installation using the original installation disk mounted in the optical drive. How can I be sure that this will not overwrite the 8.1 OS?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Just checking that you don't have UEFI incompatibility problems.
The problem, from your description, would seem to be the fact that you've ported an OS from one PC to different hardware.
It won't have the drivers for the new mobo chipsets installed, hence the inability to access the USB ports.
Do you have a PS2 adapter (or an old PS2 keyboard) you can try ? (assumimg the new PC has PS2 connectors).
Have you enabled legacy USB support in the BIOS ?

You can't really "repair" a Windows 7 install in the true sense the way you could with Windows XP. I'm presuming you're aware of that?

Thanks again Terry, enabling USB legacy support gave me mouse and keyboard control. Windows 7 required re-activation, which I have done, and everything appears to be working well. You will have gathered that I am not the most computer savvy guy on the block so I really do appreciate your help.
