Hi all,
I need some help with dual booting xp with win 7.

My win xp is on drive 0 C: partition
My win 7 is on drive 1 D: partition

I Originally installed win 7 after xp and had a dual boot option, but now i had to format the xp partition and reinstall xp.

Ive downloaded beta 2 and was wondering how is the best way for me to set it up for my drives/partitions.

At the moment bcd shows no 0 entries listed in bootloader.

I currently have xp as my main boot.

Regards

Duds

Make sure NET 2.0 framework (pre-requisite) is installed on XP
Get EasyBCD 2.0 latest build
"Bootloader Setup" / "Install Vista/7 Bootloader" / "Write MBR"
Boot W7
Using EasyBCD 2.0
"Add new Entry"
Windows Tab / XP dropdown / Add Entry
Let it autoconfigure when it offers.
If that doesn't work
Use Tools/Autoconfigure
(they do the same thing but some people have recently reported problems with the self-invoked version - under investigation)

I have this entry:
There are a total of 2 entries listed in the bootloader.

Default: Microsoft Windows XP
Timeout: 10 seconds.
EasyBCD Boot Device: C:\

Entry #1
Name: Microsoft Windows XP
BCD ID: {default}
Device: boot
Bootloader Path: \NTLDR

Entry #2
Name: Microsoft Windows 7
BCD ID: {27a20e4b-3ff4-11df-a5b5-00508db3e636}
Drive: D:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

But when i boot from the xp drive i get no menu and just boot straight into xp?

I know im doing something wrong here, i just dont know what.

Is there a folder called "boot" on your XP system (folder options thus to see it) ?
If not, is it on W7 ?
In the latter case, change your BIOS setting to boot from the other HDD.
Did you boot W7 after writing the MBR ?
Have you tried setting W7 as default in the "edit boot menu" ?
Do you have "skip boot menu" ticked ?

I changed boot order in bios to win 7 drive and the boot loader menu shows up with xp as default ( like i set it). When i select xp, screen goes black and nothing happens. I changed back to win xp drive in bios to get back to my favorite windows.

Boot folder is on win 7

Bootloader path for xp shows no drive letter but i did set it for c: and somehow its gone back to nothing again?

Please use Tools | Auto-Configure.

EasyBCD is currently *not* auto-configuring even when you ask it to when adding a new entry. You have to manually call auto-configure from the Tools menu in order for the changes to take effect.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and will have it fixed in the next build ASAP.

Change the BIOS back to W7.
Boot W7 and concentrate on getting the dual-boot menu fixed
Delete the XP entry, add it again and let it auto-configure as per post #2. (and CG's new post)
It will copy stuff to the W7 disk, without changing XP, so don't worry.

OK. When you're ready.
CG has uploaded a new build (92) which fixes the auto-configure broken link.
Make sure you get the latest version before continuing.
