If you're referring to Neosmart's embedded key reader, that's all it does. Reads one if there is one or tells you if there isn't. Embedded keys began around Windows8 iirc. If your PC pre-dates that it will have a sticker.
Thanks for posting
I have a win 7 ,hoping to upgrade to 10
I bought a win 10, assuming microsoft will ask for one.
When I clicked on the file, that was the message I got?
If you bought a retail copy of W10 it will come with a key of its own on the packaging which you can enter during setup when prompted for one.
The Neosmart utility just tells you what the embedded key for the existing OS is (or if there is no embedded key as in your case)
I bought a windows exec , not retail but online from Neosmart, downloaded the file, also transferred a usb.
I still haven;t attempted to upgrade from 7 to 10 because I'm now all confused
Neosmart do not supply W10 OS downloads nor keys for same due to Microsoft copyright restrictions.
Not sure what you bought but it seems it's not what you thought it was. Refund Policy
