Hello,

I had XP installed on my computer on 1 partition but i wanted to instal vista next to it so i made 2 partitions.
When i powerup my computer i get a window with 2 choises:
Start windows XP
Start an older version of windows

(I installed vista on C and XP is on D now)

When i start Vista it works fine, but when i choose to start windows xp (the older version) i get a black screen with a "_" flashing in the left upper of my screen.

Problem: Windows XP can't start up, vista does.

How can i fix this?

Thanks! Robbert

There are a total of 2 entries listed in the Vista Bootloader.
Bootloader TimeOut: 30 seconds.
Default OS: Microsoft Windows Vista

Entry #1

Name: Windows XP
BCD ID: {ntldr}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \ntldr
Windows Directory:

Entry #2

Name: Microsoft Windows Vista
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Windows Directory: \Windows

Howdy, Robert. Welcome to NeoSmart Technologies!!

Try to change (with EasyBCD) the drive letter for Windows XP from C: to D:
Does that fix it?

Only other thing I can think of: delete the XP entry entirely, then create a new XP entry that points to C:\ as the drive.

If that doesn't work it seems that XP was corrupted during the Vista install - you'll have to reinstall XP then use EasyBCD to re-install the Vista bootloader.

You can remove Vista, but it won't fix your XP.

On the other hand, this might:
EasyBCD -> Manage Bootloader -> Reinstall XP Bootloader.
