I have see another simmilar thread that is still active but not to confuse conversation opening this one.
Situation:
- One HD
- 3 partitions (C - WIN732; J - WIN764; E - WINXP) (this is when have WIn 7 32bit running)
- Win 7 32&64 are found with no issues but Win XP gets the message - EasyBCD failed to detect valid instalation....
- I have tried detecting it using EasyBCD 2.1 Beta 129
When I go to Tools-Edit Legacy Options:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINXP
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINXP="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer

Thanks for any suggestion.
Addendum:
My XP install has "WINXP","Program Files", "Documents and Settings" folders.
I renamed WINXP to Windows and was able to add it using EasyBCD
Based on another post I guess I should bow change Boot.ini and not sure I know what to do here.
If I go to Tools - Edit Legacy Entries I can see the file that looks like Boot.ini.
Is this where I change it?
Once changed how and where I save it?
I made all files visible but can not see boot.ini.
THX
Addendum:
OK - I found some boot files on C: (please not I am logged on Win7 32 in case it makes any difference)
I have:
Boot.ini (file type: SAVED FOLE)
;
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
;
[boot loader]
timeout=1

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /FASTDETECT
BOOT (file type: configuration settings)
; This boot.ini was automatically generated by NeoSmart Technologies' BootGrabber.exe
; Use EasyBCD from http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 to manage your bootloader
[boot loader]
timeout=15

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Windows XP on E:\" /fastdetect
Boot (file type: BAK FILE)

timeout=1
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
So I have to change somethingto have WINXP as install dir instead of WINDOWS.
Just not sure what and how?
I also tried removing the read-only flag on these files but still not able to save them if any changes made.
Thanks for help.
Addendum:
OK - Resolved
Tools-Edit Legacy Entries let me edit the Boot.ini and all is working now
