XP on D: of 2nd disk don't boot after Win7 install on C (of first disk)

hi all,
uhmm... my desktop's config is a bit confusing
i've 2 disks, with 5 partitions cuz i was planning to use the old one for another pc, but then i let that "other pc" gone

anyway, i made good use of bcd a couple of months ago to dual boot vista and xp before. Then I totally forgot the Vista!

last week I've formatted and installed win7 beta on C (old IDE disk)
since then i can't boot into the Win XP on D (but on the other SATA disk)
i extracted the zip file with ntldr to C drive, configured w EasyBCD... nope...

btw my only active, system, boot disk is C

any suggestion

Hi Neo, welcome to NST.
Use EasyBCD 2.0 latest build and add an entry for XP (delete any previous, first)
Accept the offer to auto-configure the XP boot, and it will put everything where it needs to be.

Can you verify that you're using build 64 (very new).
If so please post a screenshot of your Disk Management, and copy/paste the output from EasyBCD "display settings" in debug(detailed) mode.

Hi again,
I checked About screen (via Help menu), it says 2.0.0.64.
I attached the disk mgmt screen to the post

file:///C:/Users/cihan/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.jpghere's the debug
thanks for the great support

Does your XP disk have an active partition? Try setting the XP partition (d) as active and reconfigure with EasyBCD.

OK, I set D drive active as well
and extracted SIW2's boot files again to the root of C:\ it failed again
i'd it extracted to D:\ later on, it didn't help as expected...
Terry60, any other advice?

Check that C:\NTLDR C:\ntdetect.com and C:\boot.ini exist.
Make sure that C:\.boot.ini (the one on your "system" partition, not the boot.ini on the XP partition), specifies rdisk(1) partition(1) in both the default and OS lines.

it's finally done - thank you for all the support
I feel like re-extracting boot.ini to C: again solved it, but I'm not sure because I believe I did it before and then used BCD...

thanks and all the best

You're welcome. You are probably right - the boot.ini in the zip folder had the correct entries. Glad you got it working.
