Clear Internet Explorer Cache: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

This guide shows you how to clear the cache for the following Internet Explorer versions: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. It also shows how to clear cache in Microsoft Edge, which is a newer version of Internet Explorer supplied with Windows 10.

If you’re not sure which Internet Explorer version you’re running, follow these steps for a faster route to open Internet Options to clear the cache:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the field, then click OK

Clear Cache In Internet Explorer 6

To clear the cache in Internet Explorer 6, follow these steps:

1. Right-click on the Internet Explorer 6 and select Internet Properties.Or, you can open Internet Explorer 6 and from the Tools menu and click Internet Options.
2. The Internet Properties window will appear
3. At the General tab, under the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files, select Delete all offline content, then click OK
4. Restart Internet Explorer 6

You can also use Run to open Internet Options directly:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the field, then click OK

Clear Cache In Internet Explorer 7

To clear the cache in Internet Explorer 7, follow these steps:

1. Right-click on the Internet Explorer icon from your Desktop
2. Select Internet Properties
   Or, if you already have Internet Explorer 7 open, go to the Tools menu and click Internet Options.
3. The Internet Properties window appears
4. In the General tab, under Browsing history, click Delete
5. Click the Delete files button at Temporary Internet files section
6. Click Yes to confirm the deletion
7. Click Close
8. Restart Internet Explorer 7

To directly open Internet Options of Internet Explorer 7, follow these steps instead:

1. Click Start > Run
2. Type inetcpl.cpl in the search box
3. Then click OK

Clear Cache In Internet Explorer 8

If you’re using Internet Explorer 8 you can clear the cache by following these steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer 8 and from the Tools menu, click Internet OptionsYou can also click Safety and then click on Delete Browsing History…To open the Delete Browsing History window directly, press this combination of keys: Ctrl + Shift + Del
2. The Internet Properties window should now load
3. Under the General tab and under the Browsing history section, click Delete
4. Select the Temporary Internet files option, then click Delete
5. Click OK on the Internet Properties window
6. Restart Internet Explorer 8.To force a refresh of Internet Explorer 8, press these combination of keys: Shift + Ctrl + F5

To open the Internet Options menu of Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:

1. Click Start > Run and type inetcpl.cpl in the search box
2. Click OK or press Enter to run the command

Clear Cache In Internet Explorer 9

To clear the cache in Internet Explorer 9, follow these steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer 9
2. From the Settings icon on the top right corner, click Safety
3. Then click Delete browsing historyYou can click the Settings icon, click Internet options, then at the General tab, under the Browsing history section, click Delete.To open the Delete Browsing History window directly, press this combination of keys: Ctrl + Shift + Del
4. The Delete Browsing History window should now appears
5. Select the Temporary Internet files option
6. Click Delete
7. A confirmation message will appear after the browser clears the cache
8. Restart Internet Explorer 9

Clear Cache In Internet Explorer 10

To clear the cache in Internet Explorer 10, follow these steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer 10 by double-click on its icon available on your Desktop
2. Click the Settings icon (top right corner)
3. Click Safety
4. Click Delete browsing historyYou can click the Settings icon, click Internet options, then at the General tab, under the Browsing history section, click Delete.
5. Select the Temporary Internet files option
6. Click Delete
7. A confirmation message should appear
8. Restart Internet Explorer 10

To open the Delete Browsing history menu directly, you can press this combination of keys: Ctrl + Shift + Del. You need to have Internet Explorer 10 open when doing the combination of keys.

Clear Cache In Internet Explorer 11

To clear the cache in Internet Explorer 11, follow these steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer 11
2. Click the Settings icon (top right corner) and click Safety
3. Click Delete browsing history
4. Check the Temporary Internet files and website files option
5. Click Delete
6. A confirmation message should appear
7. Restart Internet Explorer 11

Clear Cache In Microsoft Edge

To clear the cache in Microsoft Edge, follow these steps:

1. Open Microsoft Edge
2. Click the Hub icon  .
3. Click the History icon  .
4. Click the link labeled Clear all history.
5. Check the boxes for each item you want to clear.
6. Click the Clear button. The message “All Clear!” will appear at the top when the data has been erased.
