Change boot drive wiped out windows

I was trying to get a second SSD to boot and it was currently loaded as D:. I was going through the options in EasyBCD 2.4 and tried Change Boot Drive. Drive c:\ was the default so I set D:\ as the new boot drive and clicked ok. It wiped out the partition and left it unformatted. I was able to recover with testdisk. Is that normal and if so, why no warning and careful explanation of what will happen?
