EasyBCD 1.6 new-user problems

I have a test machine running Vista, several old Windows versions (XP, Win98 etc) and 8 different Linux versions, which all have Grub installed in their respective root partitions.

Vista and the old Windows versions load correctly and when I add any of the Linux versions with EasyBCD it runs correctly. The problem arises when I try to install more than one version of Linux in easyBCD. Only the last version of Linux listed in EasyBCD is booted correctly. For example, an entry in the Vista boot loader might look like:

Earlier Versions of Windows
Microsoft Windows Vista
openSuSE v10.2
Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty
Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty
Fedora Core 6

The first two Windows entries work correctly but selecting any of the Linux entries always results in booting Fedora Core 6. I have tried changing the order of the Linux entries but it is always the final entry which is booted.

In addition, I am unable to see more than 9 partitions in easyBCD even though there are more partitions in use.

Any help with these problems appreciated.

Hi,

That issue with Linux is a known issue (as a matter of fact, we consider it "intended behavior"), I'll explain, provide a workaround, and re-consider in a post later today.

Can I please see:
1) A screenshot of the Linux page in EasyBCD with the drive list fully expanded?
2) EasybCD -> Useful Utilites -> Power Console ->
Code:
cd bin
bootpart.exe
Can you paste the output here in a [c o d e][/ c o d e] box?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I couldn't figure out how to get a screenshot of the fully-expanded Linux page in easyBCD so I'll type in the output manually :frowning: .....

Drive 0
Partition 0 (HPFS/NTFS - 10GB)
Partition 1 (HPFS/NTFS - 15GB)
Partition 2 (Win95 XInt 13 extended)
Partition 3 (Linux swap - 1GB)
Partition 4 (Extended - 10GB)
Partition 5 (Linux native - 10GB)
Partition 6 (Extended - 9GB)
Partition 7 (Linux native - 9GB)
Partition 8 (Extended - 9GB)
Partition 9 (Linux native - 9GB)
Drive 1
Partition 0 (???? - 73GB)

Notice that only the first 9 partitions of drive 0 are listed. Here is the output from bootpart.exe:

Code:

Add partition in the Windows NT/2000/XP Multi-boot loader
Run "bootpart /?" for more information

I am having the exact same behavior. I don't see all my linux partitions and I cant list multiple linux partitions - they all go to the same place.

What's your email address, hverne?

This will be fixed in 1.61 when it goes gold, but you can test it now if you like.

lol, sorry about that  - stupid forums has so many bugs! I'm working on a replacement, hopefully it'll be out sooner or later.
Sending the build now.

New version seems to work fine.
If I update one of my linux partitions and menu.lst changes, is it necessary to delete and re-add the partition?
Can easybcd handle volumes (as used in Fedora)?

if menu.lst changes, no.
But if you reinstall GRUB, as in actually deleting a partition or reordering partitions, yes.
