Hey guys,

There's a new article in the wiki that I think warrants a post here, as it address many fundamental questions that we've been asked to compile a resource about over the years.

The BIOS/MBR Boot Process, aka everything you ever wanted to know about how your PC boots, part one

Part 1 is because a followup article dedicated to EFI/UEFI machines and GPT disks is on its way, due to arrive soon (TM), as well as another article focusing on the similarities and differences between the two.

It's definitely on the longer side, so happy reading!

Thanks for sharing this! It’s great to finally have a comprehensive resource covering the BIOS/MBR boot process, especially since it addresses so many common questions. Looking forward to the upcoming EFI/UEFI and GPT follow-up articles as well—sounds like a very useful series.

Thanks for sharing this. The explanation of the BIOS/MBR boot process is really helpful, especially for understanding what happens before Windows starts. I’ll definitely check out the article and look forward to the UEFI/GPT follow-up.
