I have an old PST file from a previous Outlook setup, but I no longer have access to the original Outlook profile that was used to create it. The PST contains several years of emails and attachments that I still need to access and archive.
My first thought was to open the file through Outlook and export the required data, but installing and configuring Outlook just for an old PST archive seems unnecessary. I am therefore looking at dedicated PST converter software that can read the mailbox directly and export the required information into more accessible formats.
The archive contains multiple folders and subfolders, and I would prefer not to lose that organization during conversion. Some messages also contain important attachments, so simply extracting the email text would not be sufficient for my requirements.
I came across the SysInfo PST Converter while researching available options. It appears to support converting PST data into formats such as EML, MSG, MBOX, PDF, and CSV, along with options for previewing mailbox contents and selecting specific folders.
Before I process the original archive, I want to understand how others approach this situation. Is a dedicated PST converter useful when Outlook is unavailable, or are there alternative ways to access and export an old PST?
I am particularly interested in whether the tool should be able to preview the mailbox before conversion, preserve the folder hierarchy, and retain attachments. If only certain folders are required, I would also prefer to avoid converting the entire archive unnecessarily.
