Hi,

I am trying to help a friend fix his HP dv6000 laptop

It flashes HP screen, microsoft screen and then goes to blue screen

from:
HP Consumer Support

Troubleshooting Error Messages on a Blue Screen that may Occur During Startup or Boot
h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00372711#N354

and this is the error code from the blue screen

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to precent damage to your computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps:
disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or back up utilities. check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical Information:

The HP post recommended neosmart to create a vista repair/restore disc

In the neosmart knowledge base:

0x00000024: Fix for Windows XP, Vista, 7
000000024: Fix for Windows XP, Vista, 7

it said

Fix #2: Use Easy Recovery Essentials for a guaranteed fix
Easy Recovery Essentials (Windows recovery and repair disc) can fix your computer of this error automatically.

I tried the automatic repair,
the restore option
used command line, just got unknown command for everything entered

before purchasing I tried every option on the F8 Advanced Boot Options, with no success

Looking for help on something I missed

thanks in advance for any help

Did you run chkdsk ?
If not, run chkdsk /r against the OS partition (It'll take a while), then try the boot again

tried chkdsk /r, chkdsk C: /r and a dozen other commands all were returned as unknown command

You'll need to sort out whatever problem (syntactical or otherwise) is throwing up that response (since chkdsk is clearly a known command), because it's absolutely imperative to let it try to repair the file system damage if you're going to have any chance of booting without a reinstall of the OS.
This might help

Sorry to be so late in getting back to you, and sorry if I was rude in not thanking you earlier for your attempts to help me<br>

Thank You!

I've been doing a bit of research (listed below) and...

saw that numlock could affect command line entries so tried every entry twice
<br>
saw that hitting tab twice lists all (720) useable commands

chkdsk not listed

fsck not listed

dosfsck listed
testdisk listed

if these are all the commands that might help, which and how should I use them?

in the list of neosmart forum posts MANY also say their command line entries not found

of course the command line IS the lastresort I certainly didn't purchase easyre to use anything but the automatic repair which did not work, the system restore also did not work...

Try picking up a free bootable partition manager
e.g.
Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.
and using its Check File System option (chkdsk)
video help available
How to Check File System? Partition Wizard Video Help.

sorry to be so stupid the current version (cannot see an archive of older versions)
it downloads as an exe no iso image

I tried just copying the installation to disc and boot with that but no go

while in the bios changing boot order I tried the hdd self test

it was the comprehensive test took over an hour and got

test result 00 pass which is good?

having trouble with making bootable disc from exe cannot find an iso version

<br>
this seems to be the new way<br>
<br>
Check File System <br>
Check Dynamic File System <br>
If you would like to check and recover file system to ensure the integrity of your files, <br>
you can use the Check File System function. <br>
To start this function: click "Dynamic Disk" in the top menu » click "Check File System". <br>
www.partitionwizard.com/help/check-file-system01.html<br>
<br>
on the left side about where check file system was is now<br>
<br>
Surface Test<br>
<br>
Surface Test <br>
Disk Surface Test will scan each disk sector status by reading data from the sector. <br>
Disk block without reading error will mark as green color, <br>
disk block with reading error will mark as red color. <br>
www.partitionwizard.com/help/disk-test-surface.html<br>
<br>
I ran that and the disk had no errors<br>
<br>
I found that above link and went to dynamic disk tab and check file disk was greyed out<br>
<br>

Anyway, after talking to the laptop's owner since the neosmart didnt work I tried my repair discs from <br>
past computers and eventually got to a windows 7 installation disk which had repair computer as an option <br>
and THAT fixed the laptop<br>
<br>
removed everything not system related, installed new malwarebytes, ccleaner, avast, speccy, crystaldiskinfo<br>
chkdsk'ed, defragged, updated and it is quick as a bunny<img src="images/mt_smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" smilieid="1" class="inlineimg"><br>
