Vista on laptop, boot Ubuntu external esata

Is this possible?

I've tried with both the Linux tab EasyBCD and NeoGrub.

Seem to always get the same kind of error. Believe it is the same error 21

disk not found.

I'm not absolutely sure of the error, but it certainly does not boot.

Would like to be able to boot Linux native without any emulators (Virtualbox, Vmware etc...)

Again is it possible todo with EasyBCD

This is on an HP laptop loaded with Vista Home Premium. The Fantom external drive has both USB 2.0 and esata ports. Currently using esata port.

Vista can see this -

DISKPART> list disk

Not sure if GRUB4DOS does.
 
It'll only be possible if your system supprts booting from e-sata. You can try connecting with USB instead and repeating the proccess. If you boot off USB you can only have one USB storage device plugged in when you start the computer otherwise it won't work.

I was kinda getting that impression. Not sure if the bios supports booting off USB, don't
think so. Even so going to USB would be a slow boat.

Guess that just leaves One Bunch of room for virtual machines.
