OK, can you...

* Uninstall all iReboot instances.
* Make sure C:\Windows\Assembly no longer contains ANY "BcdLibrary" in there.
* Check in Administrative Tools -> Services for any "iReboot Background Service" (shouldn't be there)
* Make sure C:\Program Files\NeoSmart Technologies\iReboot\ is not there or empty
[C:\Program Files (x86)\NeoSmart Technologies\iReboot on x64 machines).
* Check TaskManager and make sure no iReboot_____ processes are running....

And then try running the setup again?

Are you saying it works fine on Windows Vista though? (Did you have previous iReboot builds installed there, too?)

I always uninstall the old ones first. Will do the above as soon as I've finished doing something else here, and will report back.
Yes it works fine in Vista, this is only in XP that the problem exists.
I'm stuck in Vista right now for a while, I'll get back to you a.s.a.p.

Addendum:

I followed your instructions to a tee and still get the problem.

I can't reproduce this behavior on any of my XP installations and testbeds...

EDIT:
I'm going to install all previous builds one-by-one leading up to build 10 and 11 and see if that will re-create the problem.

EDIT:
Done that. iReboot 1.0, svn 2, svn 6, svn 8, svn 9, svn 10, and svn 11. No problems. :frowning:
Even restarted the PC... Everything works fine.

Builds 0 through 11

For what it's worth, here are all the iReboot builds uploaded since (and including) 1.0. Installing and uninstalling all these in order leads to no problems (even w/ BcdLibrary in C:\Windows\Assembly\ etc.)

iReboot 1.0 through 1.1 build 11

I know it's very strange CG. In the XP's I'm using iReboot 1.0 for now as per: http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=11
Up rather late as I'm not feeling good, so reading my overnight mail.
I don't mind using the older version in XP as it works fine as does the newest one in Vista.

Hope you're not coming down with something, Peter.. get well!

About iReboot: The thing is... Terry just tested this for me, and he reports a similar problem. *sigh*

Thanks. I think I had that 24 hour flu thingy - despite having had my flu shot.

Strange, so Terry and I must have something in common apart from birthright. The thing is....what is it? McAfee...or....?

Is there any process on which the later versions rely that might be an optional Windows update that we might not have, or some process that has to be installed?

I don't suppose this is the solution, or whether it has any relevance at all, but I just found 2 different iRs in my startup folder, despite having uninstalled each version before trying the next, so something in the uninstall must have failed.
Stupidly, I didn't note the version numbers before deleting them, but I think they were 1.0.1 and 1.1.0
Any chance that 9 left something behind that's clobbering the execution of 10 and 11 ?

I just took a quick look from Vista and it appears that I only have the one if it's in "All Users" Startup that I'm supposed to look.
I had none under my own name in Startup.

I've only put this on XP Peter, just to test it for CG. It's not on Vista at all because I can't actually make use of it till it includes HnS support.

I meant that I had a quick look in the XP Startup folder from my Vista OS as I'm in the midst of doing a DVD burn right now and can't reboot.
It is the All Users Startup to which you refer?

One of the builds (i think 1.0.0) didn't properly remove the startup shortcut, but it's OK since they both point to the same iReboot.exe path. You ended up with two startup shortcuts pointing to the same file, no harm done (same here, and I couldn't repro the crash)

To be honest Peter I didn't look. I wasn't actually searching for it , I came across it by accident while doing something else quite unrelated.

That's by design, the iReboot installer adds an entry to the All Users startup folder. Is that a problem?

ROTFLMAO...that's good news? Well I guess it's nice to have the creator get the same result as us peons.

Good luck with the research CG, you deserve it my friend.

I shall immediately reboot into XP and test it out. I'll be baaaaccckkk.....as Arnie would say.
