Today Mozilla has celebrated the release of Firefox 1.5.0.4, right after the release of Bon Echo Alpha 3.
While everyone is talking about the new in-your-face Google Anti-Phishing Features bundled with Firefox (perhaps more on that later), we’re far more excited about one tiny bug fix: the infamous copy and paste bug that has haunted Firefox since before it was born (present in the Mozilla line)!
A while back we bugged the Mozilla devs until we got a patch committed, and now it has finally been incorporated into an official build. We urge all our readers to upgrade to 1.5.0.4 ASAP, and let us know if it works, because that is what we are here for.
Please remember: if it seems to still not work, you may be infected by a certain mean-spirited malware known as advertisemen, see here for removal directions.
If you are on Linux and using KDE's "klipper" utility, you'll need to do this as well.
Firefox now seems a little faster too!
I am having problems with copying content from a page and pasting it into a wiziwig on an .asp page it gives me this error.
"Unprivileged script cannot access Cut/Copy/Paste programatically for security reasons."
So I tried the Javascript fix for it and it did not work. Also you have to put in one site @ a time that you want to use the fix for.
it works fine in IE. so I have to keep using it, This sucks!
Hi Eryx. This is not a bug persay, Mozilla devs call it a "feature," and it's unrelated to this one.
However, there are two possible workarounds: 1) Use keyboard shortcuts ctrl c and ctrl v to copy and paste. They will work. 2) Drag and drop the text you need copied into that WYSIWYG window.

I too upgraded to Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4, but that didnt seem to fix the copy and paste problem, so I did the regedit fix and thats what did the trick for me. I dont use Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4, because one of my favorite extensions, favicon, isnt supported in the new version.,

I cant seem to shift this bug and it makles me use diffrent sytems too.
What i dont get is when I reload firefox it isn't sorted on the new download???

I have also experienced this bug for years. I just downloaded Firefox 1.5.0.4, and I am sorry to inform you that the bug is NOT fixed. It recurred in exactly the same form in my very first session.
I should add: I am on Max OS X, so my understanding is that the malware problem should not affect me. Again, with Firefox 1.5.0.4, I still experience exactly the same problem.
Sorry to inform you that this bug is NOT fixed. I have upgraded to Firefox 1.5.0.4 on Windows XP Pro and I am still experiencing this problem.
I am running a 3GHz Pentium 4, 1GB Ram, my Windows language and keybaord settings are set to English (UK) and I have the AdBlock and DOM Inspector extensions to Firefox installed.
I have checked for advertisemen and it isn't on my system. I also occastionally have firefox fail to respond to other SHIFT key presses.
I am having the same problem with Copy & Paste, I have the updted version too. I need it for listings on eBay, I can't stand listing in IE, HELP!!

Well, now it is your turn to decide. Which is more important, copy and paste or tabs??? I made my decision.
That's.... harsh? extreme? desperate? I don't know what to say...
I made my own choice: Opera 9.01 is a miracle. It's much better than FF, though without the extensize database of extensions - but it is relatively bug-free, even more compatible, it doesn't leak memory, and it has tabs while copy and pasting....
Sad really... and the Devs aren't bothering.
I have the latest version and this bug still exists in all of its glory. I only ever use ctrl c/ctrl v to copy/paste and it works about 50% of the time (usually on the second click to focus an input box). The fact that this bug exists is ABSOLUTELY amazing to me. This is almost a show-stopper for Firefox. The copy command always seems to work for me when I right click and select copy from the drop down, but WTF?! How could a bug like this go unfixed for so long?! I don't care how messy or complicated the keyboard input code is in the mozilla codebase, this needs to be fixed! I never once want to EVER hear ANYONE complain about an IE bug, EVER. This bug should be more embarassing than MSIE's lack of support for PNG transparency in 2006. The mozilla c hackers should stop worrying about tabbed browsing and phishing filters and get their application to process keyboard input correctly, then maybe they can begin to worry about what to do with that keyboard input. FFS.
..... and I love Firefox by the way, but this bug is completely unacceptable.
Even worse than 'wasting' time on phishing protection is wasting time on SQL powered favorites... WTF?!
This and the "search-box-always-appears-when-you-type-something-in-a-form" bug are killing FF.
Yup, still having copy and paste problems here. I can't copy and paste into firefox from other applications currently doesn't seem to matter what method of copy and paste I use (version 1.5.0.5).

sometimes I can use the keyboard - ctl+c but takes two or three tries sometimes.
should be able to highlight with the mouse, right click, copy, and then paste into google..

ctrl c and ctrl v still bring up that damn annoying popup message...
for your protection.
If it was for my protection, I'd be able to turn it on and off.
Obviously, its for the code writers who were too lame to come up with an appropriate fix to a security bug.

I was unable to delete the 'pushno#.dll' in the system32 folder file. It was access was denied and it wouldn't delete it. :( I use xp, we have other users on the computer. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I have the same copy and paste bug from firefox.. I waste a lot of time having to try and recopy something to get it to paste somewhere else 50% of the time..

um i dont know if this is the bug that all of you are talking about but whenever i try to copy & paste in firefox it doesnt work i get no error message but everything works normaly in Iexplorer and and word/notepad ect....

I installed 1.5.0.7 but the bug still here. I love FF but this is really bugging me. I wait for next version then if it continues I will give up and try Opera.

I am cutting and pasting away here right now, only because I removed AdBlock Plus from Mozilla Firefox. It worked immediatly, so maybe it has something to do with a feature in Script blocking apps? I am going back to NoScript.
