This is how you know you’re on a 5-star cellular network:
The cellular network you are using is not encrypted. This call can be intercepted by unauthorized listeners.
Thank you, Zain Jordan. I truly feel safe now, especially in a country where saying something the government doesn’t like will land you a lovely prison cell with a nice view of an endless desert.
I’m afraid that I’m missing the verb. Is this an app that warns you if you telco provider is not secure?
No, this is actually basic functionality on the iPhone with iOS 5. You’re never supposed to see this if your network provider is doing everything the way they should be. When you do see it, that’s when you should get worried.
Interesting. I’ve never seen that. At first I was thinking, what would the use of this be? But I guess you simply don’t take calls about or talk about confidential information if you know your line is unsecured. Thanks.
well that’s not correct.
the cellular network may or may not be encrypted.
BUT the communication line from your phone to the next transmitter is NEVER EVER encrypted.
keeping that in mind, it seems more like a “psychological black op”, keeping the people feeling secure while in fact (due to GMS design reasons) thats simply impossible.
