This disk can be used to access system recovery tools, giving you options of using an antivirus, System Restore, document and picture backup and recovery, automated system repair, and a command-line prompt for manual advanced recovery.
Ever since we first made available the Windows Vista Recovery Disc for download back in January, we’ve been inundated with requests for an x64-compatible version. Flash-forward to three months later, and it’s finally here!
If you don’t already know what the Windows Vista Recovery Disc is and what’s used for, take a quick look at the original article – good luck catching up on the half-a-thousand comments there!
Note that this download is no longer free, due to licensing restrictions imposed upon us.
What it does: The Windows Vista Recovery Disc can be used to access a system recovery menu, giving you options of using an antivirus program, System Restore, Complete PC Backup, automated system repair, and a command-line prompt for manual advanced recovery.
What it doesn’t do: You cannot use the Windows Vista Recovery Disc to re-install Windows – it only fixes (not replaces!) Windows.
Why you need it: If you bought your PC from a major retailer, you didn’t get this CD with your hefty purchase.

This was awesome! Thank you so much for all of this information and resources. It worked the first time. π
Mahmoud,
Finally decided to help the cause and went looking for the pay here info. Toward the top of this page in the Token of appreciation paragraph it says, “You can make a donation here:”, but there is no icon, button or link information below that statement. So either the page is not displaying correctly or you have enough support.
If the page isn’t displaying correctly I will wait, if you have another way of showing appreciation let me know and if you have enough support “Good Onya!”.
In any case, let me know. If you don’t want to display it on this page feel free to use the email address used in my registration.
Have a good day.

For new users and such Sysop got the donation feature fixed.
This sight is well worth a donation.
I tried the steps above. I made an ISO image on a CD, and changed my PC to boot from CD, and when it reads the CD, the error recovery gives me the options to boot int o one of the 3 safe modes, or start windows normally. Either option takes me back to “Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3 – 0% COmplete”. Can you tell me either what I did wrong or any further suggestions to try? I have an ACER laptop. Thanks in advance.
I was able to get into the repair/install menu by pressing F8, and have tried repair, as well as restore to the most recent restore point, and no luck. Still having this issue. Any other reccomendations? Thanks in advance
Frank, you need to contact MS support and ask for Windows Update help. It’s free.
Mahmoud,
Just received email notification of another posted message. Never mind the fact that I couldn’t read it as it is a language I do not understand but it isn’t posted on the site.
Was wondering if there is a normal lag time on these postings. I’m also wondering what the question was. The questions are generally all the same in different form but every now and again one might come along that is more interesting than others.

I have successfully downloaded, thx a lot
Hi everybody
I have a 6715s HP Windows vista tm laptop
Should i download the 64 or 32 bit wondows vista recovery disc?
Thanks in advance
To Plumette,
I think you can find your system information on an HP by pressing the F10 key on startup which takes you to the resident setup utility. On this screen I think there is an option to view the System Information which should answer your question. Good luck. If it works that’s good. If it doesn’t work blame Yahooti.
Hi Kagnew
I tried it yesterday but i didn’t find the info.
The processor type is a Mobile AMD sempron ctml 3600+
cACHE SIZE 64/256 kb.
I don’t know if this information is helpful to know if i need a 32 or 64 bit…
Plumette,
Thanks for the additional information. Check your computer properties to make sure of what you have. (start right click My Computer and in the lower right hand section you will see the information you need. It might say Sempron 32 or Sempron x86-64. I have looked around and it seems there are two versions of the Sempron 3600+. I believe all Sempron Socket A/462 CPUs are 32-bit CPUs while the Socket 754 Sempron is a 64bit device. So if your My Computer Properties says Sempron x86-64 or just Sempron 64 you can use Vista 64. The x86 portion just means it will run in 32bit mode automatically when needed. The information in the Properties tab above will specifiy exactly what is installed.

Hope this has helped.

I need help. I am trying to install windows vista32 on a gateway computer that has no recovery cds, and the hardrive had a virus on it and had to be removed, howver I now cannot get the windows vista installation disk to find the drivers for the hardrive. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Joel Watson Your issue with “After going through ALL the rig-a-ma-role about this disk for over a month now, I use my HP windows vista $850.00 laptop as a flat surface for my drink as I watch TV at night. Sometimes, bucking the aMErican System of money and power and lies and admitting that one has been screwed is better for the soul.” This is exactly why I started a business where I Am building and designing computers for people from the ground up, and MY business with That is to Help save the customer from being screwed by these companies just as you mentioned, and I advise them to not buy pre built machines, because those corporate companies have made side deals with Microsoft, and others to put you the consumer in a loop so they can cause you the problems so you have to go to them to get them fixed, and even if you get a outside Technician, to help fix your machine. YOU THE CONSUMER sometimes have to fork over money to get them to help you, So I have been working designing and building computers for the past 16 years, and I Wish to provide you with a service to where If you want a computer, I build it for you but with exactly what you want, and then its all brand new parts directly from the Manufacturer so you the customer get your warranties in your name, and don’t have to deal with 3rd party vendors. As you can see i will admit I have experience in repairing removing viruses and even i am here asking for some help, but its because gateway who a client of mine has a computer with, Is making it difficult for me the tech to fix their machine.
STUPID STUPID STUPID. where is the download. Keeps looping around. waste of time
this totally worked for me : the 2 step solution as follows that worked for vista
I have found a partial solution. I went to HP?s website and found that Recovery Console Command Prompt commands are available in Vista.
I booted from the Vista dvd, system repair, command prompt, and ran the following:
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /fixmbr
Update #2:
For some reason, when the Welcome screen fades to the black desktop it reminded me of the secure desktop screen for UAC, hmmmm…..
Just for the heck of it I disabled UAC from Safe Mode, rebooted, and viola, Vista booted right up to my desktop. Can’t wait to see what happens when I turn it back on tomorrow.
Obviously this Vist installation has some corruption somewhere, for now if everything remains ok I guess I’ll just let my niece take it back to school and hope for the best.
How big is this file? I’m trying to figure out how big of a disk I need. Thank you and stay thirsty my friends
Have a Question….
Seagate’s Firmware Updater for Sata drives, left a “Present” in my OS…
I boot off 15K SCSI, and the Seagate firmware updater left code in my Physical boot drive Sector 0, which acts like this:
I boot up, and it reports: “Non-System Disk, hit any key to continue”… I hit any key, and it boots normally…. Every time….
Again, I boot off SCSI, not SATA… I eventually updated the Sata Firmware using the ISO disk, but this problem with booting still remains…
My Question: I have tried a Restore from Windows Vista Install Disk in REPAIR…
It can’t find the OS… There was a custom Floppy driver installed during initial OS install… I loaded the floppy driver, but it fails to find drive, I believe because of the “Hit any Key to continue” issue….
Now Windows DOES BOOT… I first prompts me to Hit Any Key to continue….
Does your drive support an Adaptec Embedded SCSI 7902B AIC controller ???
this fix worked incredibly well–thanks for saving my machine!
Does this work for the error msg “Bootmgr missing” on Windows 7? Have a Dell Laptop that will not boot up, was able to run diag’s and hardware came up clean. But I do not have a windows 7 disc to re-install. Can only get to F2 (setup) and F12 (boot order and diags), F8 will not work. Will take any help.
Hi Dan,
Yes, it should fix “BOOTMGR IS MISSING”
Worked like a charm, was able to run all diags off of the bootdisk. Well worth the $10..THANKS!!!
I have a Toshiba A210 laptop that had some trouble that I tried to repair. Got the official DVD Master Recovery Disks (1 & 2) but they do not seem to be of any help. I used to get “BOOTMGR is missing. Now after a little messing about I get ” No bootable partition in table”
Question: Will your Windows Vista 32 solution fix my troubles or do I need to start again with perhaps a new hard drive?
I have my in my desktop. My brother used my computer last night and then when i opened it in the morning “BOOTMGR IS MISSING? ctrl, alt, del, to restart displayed.I always press the crtl, alt, del but it will return over and over again. I try to re-install my 0.S but it does not work. what should i do please i the help.
I don?t know how prevalent the problem is of windows 7 displaying the error message ?BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart??,
i am getting the above problems but i have system recovery dvd i am able to recover, but the problem i have many necessary data and documents to save .as i am afraid to do that so could you kindly advice me the right solution to maintain the saving and recover it ?
I DL’d Windows Vista Repair tool 64 bit onto my other computer which is 32 bit, for obvious reasons I can’t open/run the ISORecorder31x64 (if that makes any sense?) my main computer is a 64 bit system hence why I DL’d the 64 bit version. Is there a way I can open the program to view the ISO so I can burn it to disc?
Thanks in advance
I also downloaded the file, Did not expected a linux bootable distri.
However the GUI is done nice, i also found no licensed programs in there as far I could see.
Looks nice just pity this program could also not help me to solve a problem
i have 1 or 2 bad sectors on a drive that contain vista.
I was not able to clone or repair the disk.
My 5 cents to make it a nice and round 9 usd
will this work on a wiped hard drive? i do have the backup disks, but my brother thought it would be hilarious to run dban on my laptop
I dont know what or if I did anything wrong but I tried to download the program I just bought off here to fix my other gateway laptop. I have the screen that says…
“Bootmgr missing”
“Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart”
I downloaded it on 4 different CD roms because I wasnt sure what format I needed it in.
So then i put it in the computer and nothing happens…
I tried every one of the discs I burned…
Help me please… I just wanted to do a factory reset so I could give it away to a friend for school…
Thanks,
-Erica J
