Windows Vista 5384 Released!

Windows Vista Build 5384 has been released to Tech Beta testers at Microsoft Connect.
Build 5384 is the real deal: Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 2 Milestone Build!

Contrary to public opinion and “leaked” information, Windows Vista Beta 2 is not a mere recompile of Vista 5381.1 and it isn’t 5381.4; Vista 5384 is Beta 2 and it’s official!
Microsoft has already launched the public download site for Vista Beta 2, but no more than that, only the site is live, but the build is not ready for download to non-techbeta testers yet.

As usual, NeoSmart Technologies will be providing screenshots and reviews as we write/take them, and you’ll find them here on the blog, at our homepage, and on the gallery.

For now, here are the build details, and it seems that a lot of thinning out and optimizations in both size and performance have been carried out, for example, compare the current build details to the previous one:

As you can see, both the builds are FRE (not CHK) this time around; and they are also both Staged installs.

      stay with xp as vista is not worth a try

    19. Thanks for the links naserol, I’m sure they’ll save a lot of people a lot of time. I took the liberty of removing your product key from that listing, it’ll expire if too many people use it. Anyone who wans a key, please use the link in the first post 🙂

VISTA Beta 2 [latest-5384] Installation error: Wonder if MS has made any definitive response to this – the folks on the boards (i’ve seen hundreds in the last 3 days) seem to have tried the obvious – what’s the ‘non-obvious’ answer to this??? btw, CRC and MD5 checksums of the download image compare exactly with actual image file on the MS site [example below]

Tried burning a new DVD from the image file, using a different burner and different software (Roxio), and even redownloaded the software and burned it to R media instead of -R. All burns were at 2x speed for highest quality. Every time get the same message “unable to open the image file” so all I’ve succeeded in doing so far is wasting several DVDs.”

      You can download it, but you cannot install it unless you have a freaking KEY !!! and that for a BETA. ( a TEST VERSION) why does this keep pissing me off !!!!

      A key for a retail version, agreed, but for a BETA ? please gentlemen, will you guys and girls at Microsoft never learn ???

      But they don’t necessarily use it for activation and warez-control purposes, it gives them a near-accurate reading on how many PCs are running their OS. The activation ensures that Key-to-PC counts are more-or-less accurate.

      I agree, a simple 6 digit number-only key provided on-the-spot would be nicer, but what do we know? 😉

    25. I’ve installed vista but i try to activate it but the key is likely used by many people before me. As MS are going to give anymore key.. But i guess there people out there who unwilling to share their key.. Com’mon.. U can use 1 key to for 10 pcs.. They’ll end up not gonna using it anyway.. huh..

    36. thansk for info , but i can´t get in to bios to set cd boot as first option, before i installed vista on my comp. and when windows start up i just click the delete tab to enter bios but now that dos¨t exist, how do i boot now from cd/dvd drive,when i turn on my comp with cd windows xp inserted in cd drive, nothings happend windows starts just like it is¨t in cd drive

    37. that can’t be, windows vista don’t start to load until after the option to enter the bios, that’s right at the beginning when it’s doing the memory check and hardware chec, it don’t even start to read from the hard drive then. boot computer, press delete right away every 1 second and see what hapens.

    41. hej, i finely get in to the bios but when i boot from cd windows xp ,than computer read all boot data and when is finish it says A:\ and white litlle box is blinking and when i try to type command nothings happen on the screen i can’t type anything, just like my tastatur is not working but it work why is that? what to do now if anybody have som info about that so plz share with me i am stranded in here, thanks for all your help

      Where Can I get a legal copy of the beta 32bit?
      BTW I think I know how to get the “Key” but I’m not positive.

    46. Tubular! I think I’ll pop in my Men at Work cassette, and start loading this Op. Sys. from my 5 1/2″. Just kidding. I am running an AMD 64 Sys.
      I just can’t bring myself to scrap the old 286, and want to do something different with it. Thanks for the link 🙂
