How to Burn or Mount Almost Anything — For Free!

Burn Anything

You have your image. You’ve mounted it, and now you want it on CD or DVD. Or maybe you have some files you need to get burned onto optical media ASAP, and don’t have money to spend on paid software or don’t have time to waste on programs that don’t work. Look no further.

  • Supported Filetypes: bin/cue, cdi, cdr, di, pdi, dvd, gcm, gi, udi, ibw, img/ima, iso, cst, md5, urg

ImgBurn is a free & powerful program designed to quickly and cleanly burn many common image formats. As of version 2.x, ImgBurn also has a file-burning application built into it that allows you to burn files and folders just as easily as you would an image. ImgBurn can also clone CDs and DVDs from one drive to another (on-the-fly or via a on-disk buffer).

Besides the in-built extensive support for all kinds of files, should you find that ImgBurn doesn’t support a format you’d like to use, burning it is as easy as mounting it with one of the programs on the previous page and then using the disc clone feature to copy it onto a physical optical drive. ImgBurn supports a wide range of drives and gives you control over every detail and aspect of the burning process, with advanced features like choosing multiple filesystems, setting individual dates and filenamese, and much more. ImgBurn can burn DVD and VCD image types, so long as you have the DVD previously ripped to the hard drive.

Windows Media Player 11

  • Supported Filetypes: Music

You may scoff, but if you’re looking for a free program to burn your music the way you want it, don’t look further than Windows Media Player. It’s free and it comes with Windows, but that doesn’t mean it’s a wimp when it comes to getting your music on a portable device, be it a CD, DVD, or a MP3 player. Windows Media Player 11 takes the entirely redone portable media framework introduced in WMP 10 and adds quite a few new features that make it the idea choice for burning music.

Besides levelling audio volumes, searching ID3 tags for the music you want, and filtering with on-the-fly search, Windows Media Player offers extensive support for synchronization and playlists. Think about it, if you want to burn your music and enjoy it on the go, what better choice can you have other than the best media player itself?1

    1. How to burn ANYTHING: A lighter, match, or other flammable device.

How to mount ANYTHING: First of all, you must be male. Get ‘er up, mount away. You may want to run the “finger” command first, and have a firewall for protection.

    2. Excellent advice – I’d like to see an article about circumevnting copyright protection schemes and DRM though – I’m sure you guys can do that best, and recommend the niftiest tools for the job.

    3. I DOWNLOADED VIRTUA TENNIS 3 FOR PC, ITS AN ISO FILE I USE MY DVD+DL BURNER WITH DVD+R DISC TO BURN THE GAME ON THE DISC, BUT IT DOESNT WORK AFTER BURNING GAME BECAUSE IT BURNS THE GAME AS AN UDF FILE, SO HOW DO I CORRECTLY BURN THIS ISO GAME FILE ONTO MY DVD+R DISC SO I CAN INSTALL THE GAME ONTO MY COMPUTER TO PLAY?

    6. I don’t agree with your Cons listed for MagicDisc, but then again then this article is 4 years old and the program is much more updated and stable now. I <3 MagicDisc 🙂

I found this article via stumbleupon

    7. I use alcohol 52% and I don’t see any drawbacks. You might want to add that to your list… The newest version has some axvertising I think, bit I’m sure you can find an older one in a torrent. I have the latest one before they put ads in it

    8. I use PowerISO. I’ve found it works better than Daemon Tools for mounting images from games with DRM.

    9. Your Cons for MagicDisk are pretty much bs. I’m assuming it’s because they’re no longer relevant. I’ve never had the program crash, and it’s been running almost perpetually on my machine. The only time I turn it off is to play games. Otherwise, it mounts images instantly.

      I’ve version 2.7 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.

    10. i’m downloading the sms 2 like laura but my problem was i have a netbook so i dont have a disk drive……… any way i can download it without any disk burning?

    12. Doesn’t seem to work. I have clone cd but it’s not rewritable and I have WMP 11 but it only allows me to burn to my real rewritable. So how do I burn in iso image from my WMP music library?
