EasyBCD Box Art

EasyBCD 1.6 hasn’t only just kicked off with more downloads than any previous version, but also with some stylish box art to boot!

Thanks to Sarge aXa, one of NeoSmart Technologies very first forum members, EasyBCD 1.6 has some box art. We’ve uploaded the images to the EasyBCD Image Gallery if you want to take a look at the rest.

In other news, EasyBCD 1.6 has just been awarded Softpedia’s 5/5 Editor’s Pick – how they tested it and updated their site so fast… quite impressive!

EasyBCD 1.6 Released!

It’s been a while, though we haven’t really noticed. The EasyBCD 1.5x line has worked loyally and without complaint for the past 7 months, and it’s time to put it to rest. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 8 months now since EasyBCD 1.5 went gold in October of 2006 – and since then its popularity has just soared beyond all expectations.

Today we’re proud to announce the availability of EasyBCD 1.6 to the general public. It’s been a rough, long road developing the 1.6 line, but we hope you’ll find it worth the wait. With 1 million+ EasyBCD users strong, we’ve learned a thing or two about compatibility and standards – or rather shall we say the lack of them. What worked for 98% of EasyBCD users didn’t work for the remaining two percent, and NeoSmart Technologies doesn’t accept anything less than perfection – that’s why EasyBCD 1.6 goes the extra mile.

A Debugger that Doesn’t Debug

Despite all of InstallAware‘s claims of superiority, ease-of-use, and drop-dead simple compatibility and scripting capabilities compared to the competition in the market; it’s driving us crazy.

The biggest problem is the “debugger.” It’s in quotes for a reason. Take the world’s most powerful debugger, and try to debug an application that’s one big, huge “TRY” block – you’ll never get anywhere because you get a pretty error message instead. Except in our case, the message says “error,” and it leaves us to guess just where in the several hundred lines of badly-implemented scripting “MSIcode” the error is.

Even worse, if at all possible, are the breakpoints. By “break” they mean that the installer will “pause” right there – but you can’t really do anything with that pause – you can’t even access the IDE! It’s just like hitting the freeze-frame button on your Cable Box – it’s worthless.

InstallAware has a colorful history from stealing website designs to abusing the freeware communities – and you can always spot their CEO in the comments section claiming “that’s OK” because they have better products anyway. Well, it seems they don’t have even that…

EasyBCD 1.6 Completed!

This just in from the up-all-night department: EasyBCD 1.6 has been completed!

EasyBCD is now 100% bug-free and all features have been wrapped-up and are more than ready to go. The 3 remaining bugs are in the installer, and that’s what the team is working on now. EasyBCD 1.6 is being shipped as we speak to the AAA review and distribution teams around the web – and EasyBCD 1.6 will be available to the general public sometime seen in the next few days. Stay tuned!

EasyBCD Bug-Bash Countdown!

Stop the emails already! EasyBCD 1.6 is nearly finished, and the EasyBCD 1.6 bug-bash count-down has begun!

At NeoSmart Technologies, we operate a tight ship. EasyBCD will come soon, but not before it’s 100% clean, bug-free, tested all over the place, and on-par with the quality releases you’ve come to expect from NeoSmart Technologies!

To quell these increasingly impatient emails, instant messages, private messages, and what-not, we’ve decided to try something new: you can now check how many bugs are left for EasyBCD 1.6! Don’t let the numbers fool you though, they go up and down depending on what new features we choose to add, what new bugs are discovered, and other unexpected things along the way. But here’s a little secret: EasyBCD 1.6 is very close. That number “11” there right now will probably go down and stay down! :)

Don’t unplug your boot drive before installing a new OS! Please!

Please, please, we beg you, don’t do it! Even if it seems logical, like it’s the right thing to do, we urge you not to change the boot/primary drive, or otherwise disconnect other drives when installing another OS!

Seriously, we had no idea so many people engaged in this activity until EasyBCD started spreading like wild fire. Here’s a fact for you: 95% of all support requests for EasyBCD in our forums come as a direct result of users disconnecting their Windows Vista/XP drive before installing Linux, Vista, BSD, OS X, Windows 2000, XP, etc. It’s one thing to reinstall the bootloader when you’re done, and quite another to have to recreate the required boot files to make them point the right drive/partition combo.

Wanted: Documentation Experts

NeoSmart Technologies is pleased to announce its first opening in a long time: we’re looking for a documentation expert to help us finalize our documentation for a number of programs, chief of which is EasyBCD.

We already have a “template” for documentation pages, the documentation system, and all information needed available, we just need someone with some time to devote to NeoSmart Technologies and our 100% free & non-profit projects to help fill in the content and look over the info to see if anything is missing.

Ideally, we’d like someone with previous experience writing either documentation, articles, guides, FAQs, or walkthroughs for the job, but even if you don’t have that extensive experience, let us know if you’re interested and we’ll see what can be done.

If you want to help one of the most up-and-coming freeware on the scene develop and grow (more than a hundred thousand downloads in 3 weeks!), please post away below or drop us an email at EasyBCD@NeoSmart.net if you’d like – we’re waiting!

EasyBCD: 100% Clean Award

It takes bigger and more complex programs a little longer to be verified 100% clean, but EasyBCD has just been branded “100% Clean” by Softpedia’s product review team.

Not that anyone ever questioned the authenticity nor has it ever given anyone reason for concern, but it’s always good to have independant 3rd party verification from a trusted source.

You can download EasyBCD from Softpedia here — be sure to rate it while you’re there!

EasyBCD 1.52 Re-Uploaded

EasyBCD 1.52 has been re-published following a minor bug in the installer that would occasionally result in a failed install if TweakVI was queued to be downloaded & installed. The error has been corrected, and hopefully there aren’t any more issues that need immediate attending to until 1.6 comes out with quite a few new features.

EasyBCD 1.52 Up for Download

EasyBCD 1.52 has just been made available on the public servers for download. This is the primary reason for the relative lack of post activity here on The NeoSmart Files, we’ve been really busy with this build.

  • TweakVI Integration
  • Emergency bug fix for Vista/LH non-C: Entries
  • Nifty new section – “Useful Utilities”

Anyway, check it out for yourself, the only way to actually understand what “Useful Utilities” does is to see it at work firsthand. As always, should you feel compelled to say thank you: EasyBCD is a 100% free non-profit product and donations are accepted.
