What is a recovery and repair disk
Major PC manufacturers no longer give customers a real Windows 7 installation DVD along with their purchase of a computer.
A Windows 7 installation DVD can be used to recover your PC, not just install a Windows 7 copy. The DVD has a “recovery center” that gives you options to Automated Recovery (attempts to fix automatically any errors found), System Restore (restores your computer to the last working state) or you can access a command-line for advanced recovery options.
Instead, customers are expected to create a recovery media themselves – on a CD, DVD or USB drive.
Your computer’s hard drive might have a recovery partition added by the manufacturer, but what happens when your PC or Windows isn’t working or you’ve lost the disks you had?
If you can’t boot into Windows or your PC isn’t working, only a bootable recovery and repair CD/DVD/USB can save you.

Doesn’t Windows 7 include a way to create this disk? I think I remember this option from somewhere… Hmm…
It is recommended to install a fresh copy of Windows 7. Do NOT upgrade from XP as it is unstable that ways.

Hi,
I have downloaded the Windows 7 recovery iso file and burned it directly to a CD to boot from it. When i insert the CD and change my boot sequence, nothing happens. i cannot boot from this CD and recover Windows 7.
Any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for uploading
@ maherpaul – did you just burn a copy of the ISO image to the CD or open the ISO image and then burn it ?
A valid ISO image is an uncompressed collection of files merged into one single file [like a zip file]. You have to open the ISO in Nero or similar and then burn it to CD
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_image
Are these Windows 7 recovery discs backwards compatible to fix computers with Vista on (ie startup boot problems)
I got error message of “This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows” and it dies.
I downloaded and used 32bit version on HP Mini 311 which has Atom processor.
I tried 64bit but obviously it complains that CPU doesn’t support 64bit mode.
Is it possibly because HP has Home Premium version while this recovery disc is created by Ultimate version?
Any idea or clue?
Thank you!
You might want to make it easier on people unfamiliar with torrents.
Download and install uTorrent FIRST, then click on the torrent link.
Download will automatically start. That removes a couple of steps.
When done right click on the file name and “open containing folder”
If you have a program like imgburn installed just click on the ISO file and it will burn it.
If not at least you know where the file is located when you need to burn it.
(If using Opera just click on the torrent link, no need to install a torrent client)
Rapidshare links to .ISO files are dead !
please re-upload or delete.
Thanks
I was unable to get uTorrent to work so I couldn’t download the Windows 7 Recovery Disk ISO file. Is there another source for downloading the Recovery ISO?
Disregard the last query regarding alternate download methods.
thanks.. i’ll give it a try
Thanks but:
64 bit MD5 showing as: F1F6E88C2C658981DE65873A4D236C93
32 bit MD5 showing as: ED53FF0A3ACB103A9F6137F76C60E2FF
Any reason for the discrepancy?
Ok, so this blog seems to be angled toward just getting the ISO to CD. I have that done, changed the BIOS to boot from CD, ran the repair, it said it repaired and to reboot. Did that and got to the menu showing “System Restore, Startup Repair, Complete PC Restore, Memory Diagnostic Tool, and a command prompt”….and then what??? I did the Startup Repair and it didnt find anything, Memory Diagnostic Tool found no problems. However, when I restart not using Recovery CD, booting from HD I get the same “Updates not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer”. Is there some other step I should be doing AFTER booting from the Recovery Disk??
hi sir i aqm rk gautam sir i want to dawnlod windows vista with iot’s product key

Everytime i try to download the window 7 64 bit recovery disc from neosmart. the window pops up with symbol. is there any other website
Hi Guys,
There was a problem when downloading the .torrent files with Internet Explorer that would result in a page of gibberish popping-up. The workaround was to right-click and “Save As,” but we’ve now fixed this at the server level and everything should be fine once more.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
now if I could only combine these into 1 disc. Currently I have a case full of cds.
You can with EasyBCD 2.0 from http://j.mp/EBCD2
But on a flash drive not a CD.
Is this legal and work for any product key?
Ning…
Legal? M$ has been shafting the worldwide computing community for years, legal schmegal do what seems fair to you. We can only hope that by 2020 M$ has decided to aim higher than mediocrity; Win7 is a good start tho – finally!!!!
Thanks for this. I can now use again my laptop.. Cool! Great software.. Nice recovery tool for windows 7.
By the way, please include article on how to use this recovery tool using the command prompt..
Anyway, Thank you! I appreciate your help…
John
Hey, the rapidshare link is down, can someone reupload the disk on rapidshare/megaupload? My netbook can’t boot, therefore can’t go online anywhere, and my campus wifi doesn’t allow torrent downloading. Thanks!
Does anyone know of a good way to put this on a USB stick? I have a netbook that has been a little borked, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
You can do that with EasyBCD 2.0: http://j.mp/EBCD2
I’ve a brandnew netbook Acer AAO 250, with Windows 7 Starter pre-installed.
No Recovery-CD with it, no optical CD Drive, no external Burner.
Does it work to recover my W7 Starter (just in case). Can I put it on a USB-Stick?
Important, thanx for helping me.
Dear Friends,
I thought that I had understood what this .iso file is for and then you say that you cannot use it to re-install Windows 7. Why? I have a System Image on my Back up Hard Drive and I want to copy that onto a new C drive.
Also it looks as though the .iso image that I have burnt to my CD is not bootable. But that is probably my doing something wrong..
Incidentally, the ImgBurn websites (well 3 of 6) hang with 1% of the download left. Not my day is it!
Happy days, Guy
Peeps
I have just followed the instructions from this website, to fix my Daughters new Dell laptop.
This was only bought for her for Christmas and has suffered the Boot issue already
I, personally, am using a MAC and even downloading the torrent (5 minutes) and burning it to disk using propriety software, it works a treat
I booted the laptop off the CD and it recovered the boot partition
This website has calmed me down, after hours and hours of wasted, frustrated time trying to contact Dell and raise this issue with them.
Cheers
Al
i have a Sony vaio laptop that had windows 7 preinstalled. I have an OEM partition of about 10 gb. I want to recover my system to factory settings. I have tried using the F12 recovery options. It gives the option of start up repair, system restore and memory diagnostics etc but no option to restore it to factory settings. Can anybody tell how should i proceed.
I had windows 7 installed on my Toshiba laptop that I recently bought, but I have to say I will be getting XP on it, XP by far is the better operating system, I just cant seem to get used to it, XP they made so easy, I think they should create an XP2 !
Hey everyone,
I would appreciate if someone could upload the link for the 64-bit Win7 Recovery, in non-torrent format.
I would really be grateful, since I do not use torrents.
Thanks in advance.
TrDo.
thanks so very much restored my windows 7 perfectly
Is it works with non-english windows ?
6.Burn the .iso file that µTorrent downloaded to a CD using these instructions.
note link not working.
could they not just put on a download of win 7 home pre X64 OEM Acer 🙂
I am not very convinced of Windows 7. It makes my computer slower and some programs do not work anymore. And my Word already takes ages until it finally opens. When I had Windows XP on it, my computer was running fine. Therefore I can only advise of Windows 7, and I will probably remove it from my PC again.
Hi
thanks for the share
will you plz tell me what type of vindows it is. I mean is it Ultimate, professional or home editon?
Thanks for disc,I needed it 🙂
Not sure what my initial issue was (this iso’s burnt disc worked), but on my Vista, even though I’d wiped it’s partitions, my then running the iso’s recovery disc brought up a “Vista” recovery window (as opposed to either a generic ‘Windows’ recovery window). Nevertheless and moreover, my newly purchased “Windows 7 Pro OEM System Builder Pack” disc wouldn’t run in the problem laptop’s CD/DVD drive as I was still getting the NTDLR is missing black screen, so I used the iso’s recovery disc and brought up the “Vista” recovery/install window, then removedthat disc and slipped in the W7 disc, when the ‘install now’ went searching for drivers, it squalked that I needed to insert a disc having “a missing driver”, plus that associated initial search box’s pane was blank with no files/drivers to select) from. So then I used the then still open W7 and/or ‘Vista’ recovery manager to try and “browse” the W7 CD and while the W7 disc listed as being on my CD/DVD drive, when I tried expanding the tree, I was prompted of an apparently corrupted disc and/or bad drive. So I used my external read-writer to USB into the problem machine (as that reader has read almost all poor quality discs that I’ve encountered). I now know that OEM W7’s discs are in my case and/or all other cases, well used and even badly stained as well as lightly scratched discs (right out of the box), ie; regardless of MS’s sealed packaging also supplied with the ‘COA’ sticker), ie; buyer beware as an OEM disc likely will result in bad installs, plus the headach and/or impossibility of ever getting MS to replace such discs (the stores won’t tell you this until you try returning an OEM disc) and they tell you only then that the disc was a reduced price and non-returnable and basically for us to go to **** (MS).
Many thanks for providing this service. Torrent is working beautifully by the way, topped off at 1.5mB/sec and finished in a handful of minutes.
As I’m a student getting my copy of 7 from the MSDNAA, I’m only able to get a “loaner” install disc from my educational institution without paying extra for Microsoft to ship me an actual disc of my own. This download provides a service that had me worried, and it is appreciated.
I got an XP disc for running Boot camp on my Mac book and I had to use that to recover friends computers bunches of times.
Thank you for this. I still use Mac but I am thinking about running 7 as my Windows Operating system in BootCamp and for all my friends who before borrowed my XP disc this is excellent advice.
I will also be sending my pure PC friends here to check out your advice.
Vista SUCKED for me.
Do you like System 7 more then XP?
I run Mac and bootcamp but I have had to loan my XP discs to friends several times.
This is great advice. Thank you. I will be sending some pure PC friends to check this out.
Do you find System 7 more stable then XP?
HELLO EVERYONE. I BOUGHT A NEW GATEWAY COMPUTER WITH VISTA PRE-INSTALLED. I CAUGHT A VIRUS BEFORE I MADE A RECOVERY DISC OF VISTA. I WAS ABLE TO GET RID OF THE VIRUS AND THEN I USED A WINDOWS 7 64BIT UPGRADE DISC TO UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 7. BUT NOT I KEEP GETTING ERRORS FROM MISSING DRIVERS, DLL FILES, AND I KEEP GETTING ERROR MESSAGES WHEN TRYING TO INSTALL DVD BURNING SOFTWARE AND IT SAYS MY MULTIMEDIA VIDEO CONTROLLER IS MISSING. WOULD USING THESE WINDOWS 7 RECOVERY DISC FIX THESE PROBLEMS? PLEASE HELP! THANKS SO MUCH
Fast download I really hope this works :/
YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER TRULY!!!! EVERY ONE IN NEED USE THIS!! I LOVE YOU AND YOUR DISK!
Hi everyone, my Win 7 crashed this morning and I am really grateful that I stumbled upon this page. I am now trying to recover using the disc.
Is it normal for the System Recovery Options to load for a long time? The cursor’s been loading for around 30 minutes now, Windows 7 under System Recovery is already highlighte but I haven’t been able to click Next because of the loading cursor.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys, torrent downloaded in around 2 minutes: No Problems at this end! if only everyone made it this easy to make babby. Thanks guys!
Same problem as Nadayam:
Even though I have Windows 7 64 bit and use the original Win 7 64 bit DVD the recover option gives me the error:
“This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows”
The 32 Bits version gives the same error. Pretty much stuck here.
After some more trial and error research it appears my RAID 1 is triggering this bogus M$ error. Disabling the RAID mirror and temporary disabling one of the raid drives allows the Recovery Environment to work again.
Hope this might help some people with this specific error.
