What is a recovery and repair disk

Windows 7 LogoMajor PC manufacturers no longer give customers a real Windows 7 installation DVD along with their purchase of a computer.

A Windows 7 installation DVD can be used to recover your PC, not just install a Windows 7 copy. The DVD has a “recovery center” that gives you options to Automated Recovery (attempts to fix automatically any errors found), System Restore (restores your computer to the last working state) or you can access a command-line for advanced recovery options.

Instead, customers are expected to create a recovery media themselves – on a CD, DVD or USB drive.

Your computer’s hard drive might have a recovery partition added by the manufacturer, but what happens when your PC or Windows isn’t working or you’ve lost the disks you had?

If you can’t boot into Windows or your PC isn’t working, only a bootable recovery and repair CD/DVD/USB can save you.

You can do this with 7 starter and im sure above now.. its in the backup pane..

since I cant to a drive CLONE…how do I reinstall in case I did use ubuntu natively on the thing(it IS faster after all and EVEN MORE secure than 7.)?

AKA: where is the missing CD?

    2. http links posted by Paul are dead. Is there someone kind enough to upload it to Rapidshare or another file hosting service? I don’t want to use torrent. Many thanks!

      – turn the computer switch on off (the one on the back)
      – Press the main button for 15/20 seconds or so

    7. I have always been looking for such thing. I am downloading it right now. A question though. I keep on experimenting installing different OSes on my PC and most I end with my Windows unbootable i.e. MBR gets deleted or something. Will this be able to fix that as well?

    8. Hi

I was wondering if this is the disc I need if I need to format my computer. Please let me know as soon as you can. Thank you

    9. do you have one of those on this site? i just bought my computer and am worried if i need to reinstall windows i wont be able to. what is it that this disc does iève read it here but dont understand when u say the computer crashes?

    10. sorry i wanted to ask one more thing, i found a copy of windows 7 install disc should it be over 3gb?

    11. A BIGGG THANKS – Sane Again ! People, if helped out here, do the noble thing and donate!

    12. I downloaded the boot recovery program and made the CD, and it booted up my Sony VAIO.  BUT, it has been running about 24 hrs and still “Attempting repairs…   Repairing disk errors.  This might take over an hour to complete”.  Should I allow it to continue?  Any suggestions?

    14. Man, so many thanks from Colombia, I downloaded the CD and it Functions at the perfection, Do Not install those software for recovery the register files, they go bad for the LaP!
      tHANKS REALLY!

    15. @Audrey:

    16. Worked like a champ. After trying to figure out how to fix my MBR and remove grub for days on a dual boot laptop, this worked like a champ in seconds. The recovery discs I had left me no way of getting into the repair console. Thanks so much.

    17. Bonjour John,

Merci à vous, il y avait effectivement eu un problème lors du gravage.

      Cdt

    18. Sincerely thanks for this recovery disc. I installed Acronis OS Selector and one day it stopped working and the computer was unable to find a boot. Well this recovery disc fixed it! I’m sooooo happy that I found this site and again thank you!

    19. Call me old fashioned if you will, but for me XP is still king. I intend holding onto it for as long as humanly possible before upgrading to either the latest Microsoft Windows offering, or hopefully a user friendly version of linux. Ubuntu is getting there, but is taking far too long for my taste.

    20. These steps would not work on my new lenovo thinkpad, which seemed to be blocking the .iso image and boot files from loading during bios startup. I also could not get them to boot from my usb keys, external hdd, or sd card.

After hours of working to resolve the issue, I finally booted the system into ubuntu using u-live disk v. 10.4. Under the “trial” settings (without installing ubuntu), I was able to erase all of the files from the lenovo factor harddisk partition labeled “boot files.” I then replaced everything on that partition with the boot files contained in the .iso image above, restarted the computer, and it sucessfuly booted into the windows 7 repair screen.

hope this method helps anyone else who gets stuck in this process.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THESE FILES!!!

    21. Thanks for posting. The leading manufacturers have become such a**holes. But if your system hasn’t already crashed, you can make this disc directly from Windows 7, without having to download anything.

Simply go to C:/ControlPanel > All Control Panel Items > Backup and Restore > Create a System Repair Disk. Then follow the directions and burn to a blank CD. Very efficient, very quick, produces identical image to the ones posted on this website.

      Thanks again to neosmart editors.

    22. At first I just thought that this was another one of those poxy websites to download their virus. But no guys this is genuine, downloaded and fixed my desktop computer in 10 minutes.

      Many thanks for your contribution!

    23. This was a huge lifesaver! I am setting up a laptop that has to go to India tomorrow morning and killed the startup on Win 7. This was a HUGE blessing as the laptop didn’t come recovery/system discs!

    24. Hey,

Disk looks good, but when I boot from cd drive I am getting error “PXE-E60: Media Test Failure, check cable”.

I am using this disk to repair after a force shutdown corruption, black screen of death!

    25. I got the “BOOTMGR is compressed” error on my laptop (currently running Windows 7) I downloaded and burned this Windows 7 boot repair disc but I have this minor/major problem I keep coming across: when I insert the disk in my drive, my computer won’t read the disc and keep taking me to that error. Any suggestions? I did everything I possibly could to boot from a disc but it won’t allow me to.

    26. Hi, torrent downloads fine (win7 32bit). Iso image can be mounted, but does not boot. Tried to burn using linux/wodim. Also but iso on usb using unetbootin-windows-471.exe. Again usb is readable but not bootable. Any probs with the iso image?

    27. I have kind of the same problem as Martin, will not boot. Getting Bootmgr is missing message (windows 7 home premium 64bit). Found this site and downloaded as instructed and burned iso. to disc, etc:. Get same error message on each attempt. Saw someplace that said you could use a vista disc to run repair on just not to install. That didn’t work either but it did boot so i could at least try.

    28. seed please! there are absolutely 0 seeds. give what you take. a friend indeed is a friend with seed

    29. Guys, there are over 3000 seeds for the Windows Vista disk and around 1000 for the Windows 7 ones. Our members have been MORE than wonderful with the seeding thing, so if you’re not getting good incredible download speeds, then there’s something wrong with your network.

    30. Thanks for the information …This was very helpful we hope you will help more people….
      tnx……….

    31. Hey, recently mentioned I had problems to use the Win7 image.
Turned out I made a mistake when using the wodim burn software.
Now I can finally start and try to repair with your copy of Win7 recovery.
      Big thanks!

    32. Hey, Is it possible to download and burn these on system running Vista? I’ve tried following these instructions exactly but when the download is finished I’m left with a RAR file. I’ve extracted and there is no .iso file. I’m just left with 2 folders (boot + sources) and 1 file (bootmgr). I’ve burned these onto a DVD using ImgBurn and put them into the laptop running Windows 7. Problem isn’t fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks.

    33. I’d like to “donate”… a kick to the one that post this shit: doesn’t work with no windows version.
It says “This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows”.
This sux and not good fix.

    34. Mark, that means you are using the x86/32-bit CD on a 64-bit installation of Windows or the other way around.

Keep in mind that amongst literally tens of thousands of users, you’re the only one complaining… which probably means if there’s a problem, it’s not on our end 🙂
