What is a recovery and repair disk

Windows 7 LogoMajor PC manufacturers no longer give customers a real Windows 7 installation DVD along with their purchase of a computer.

A Windows 7 installation DVD can be used to recover your PC, not just install a Windows 7 copy. The DVD has a “recovery center” that gives you options to Automated Recovery (attempts to fix automatically any errors found), System Restore (restores your computer to the last working state) or you can access a command-line for advanced recovery options.

Instead, customers are expected to create a recovery media themselves – on a CD, DVD or USB drive.

Your computer’s hard drive might have a recovery partition added by the manufacturer, but what happens when your PC or Windows isn’t working or you’ve lost the disks you had?

If you can’t boot into Windows or your PC isn’t working, only a bootable recovery and repair CD/DVD/USB can save you.

    6. This seems like a cool service you provide. I’m curious about why you chose the word “borked” to describe a bad Windows install. It just doesn’t fit.

    7. It’s a scandal! We paid our license.
We must have the right to download the console for free burn cd

    8. It’s never free,,,,,we paid our licence then we must pay an other I think i’ll use windowz

    9. On 2/28/2012 I downloaded and paid for Windows 7 64-bit recovery disc (order CEE57EE85094A822). After finding that nothing happened when I inserted it in the drive, I pulled out the spec sheet I had from when I bought my pc (HP dv9703ca) and saw that it was a 32-bit OS, not 64-bit. I saw on this blog or another one where you were able to download the right disc, for 32-bit OS, without additional charge. Would you be able to arrange that for me?

    10. Great, solved my problem first time, totally re wrote the Master Boot Record [MBR] without a hitch, and without destroying the GRUB boot loader for my duel boot system [Win 7/Ubuntu Linux].Totally worth the money and not having to muck about with the manufacturer. 🙂

    11. I have a problem.the normal boot doesn’t work.I used safe mode to fix it with a restore point.but it says there is not any ones.So what can I do.

    12. Ordered 64bit recovery disc. Followed instructions and presto! computer booted up! Thank you!

    13. Darren- I can see your point. My problem is that the computer only allows you to make ONE boot disk. I did a full upgrade from Vista to 7. Could not make a new boot disk. Did an update a few days ago and now my system won’t boot up. I realize I am not as savvy as many but I do try to do this stuff correctly. With this boot disk, I have managed to get in a ways, finally made it in enough to go to a prior recovery but then the same problem.

    14. After paying for and downloading i only get a window popup for Sonic DigitalMedia Plus. How do I get the information on a CD to reboot my pc?

    15. Nasty vendors.

My laptop it is a masterpiece, but i always asked myself, ¿where’s the installation cd?

      I now understand.

Namaste Mahmoud Al-Qudsi, we’ll meet in another post, Inchala.

    16. Installed Ubuntu, deleting Windows7, on a new Acer5750 . . then changed my mind and want to dual boot.
The recovery discs I produced, as recommended, have reinstalled W7 with no problems.

    17. Is there any way to do this download using a. Blackberry. I don’t have another cpu to use just my blackberry to get online. If not can I get the actual cd sent to me?

    18. My computer crashed on a business trip. When I got home, your Windows 7 recovery disk brought it back up and it seems to be working. Now I’ll be carrying the recovery disk with me when I travel. Thanks!

    19. i,ve installed a pirated version of windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. after the 30 days trial was over, now i regularly get messages to activate windows. how can i get an activation key?

    20. Take your PC to a certified IT consultant. Forget CompUSA and Best Buy as they will just sell you a windows install at $200+. IT consultant should be able to fix you up at around $75. If not, F#@k him/her.

    21. help! I bought windows 7 repair, but when placing the disc, not to repair the window (black screen with different operations)

    22. My installation files are gone. (No, I don’t know what happened!) I can’t download, update or install anything. I have the recovery disks I made, but don’t know how to use them. Would your product help me? Thanks

    23. I have an emachine E442. Did a factory reset a couple of weeks ago, worked ok. Tried to do another one and it failed. Rang Acer(emachines) who advised me to press Alt and F11 when powering on. This was working, but laptop kept shutting off, though the fan is fine. Now when i try Alt and F11 i get the .Windows Error Recovery’ window and not the ‘Restore to factory Settings’. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As like most here i bought the laptop with Windows 7 preinstalled and refuse to buy a new disc.

    24. Best 9 $ I ever spent. I did not care about reinstalling or recovering Windows 7, I just wanted to recover my data from a Windows 7 machine that would not boot, no-how, no-way. Because of your nifty little process, 30 years in the business and I still have never lost a scrap of data. Thx!!

    25. My sons computer went down and will not come back up it go to the “start windows 7 in safe mode” but wont do anything after that. is there any was that i can get the disk not download mailed to me?

    26. Hi all,
I had a mare when I messed with the pre-installed partitions and buggered up the machine. Black screen with missing bootmgr. Tried everything but I only had a Win 7 64 bit disk and the laptop I was trying to repair was Win 7 32 bit and it wouldnt repair. There was no way I was going to buy a disk so spent weeks trying to sort it out in different ways but to no avail. However, struck lucky when clutching at straws I used an old Win Vista 32 bit disk. Booted to it and asked it to repair the windows install (even though ot was a different version of windows). It repaired the boot sector and all is fine. Hope this helps,
      Regards,
      Shacks

    27. i had my computer broken down once, im only 10yrs old and it took me 4 weeks to figure out whats wrong with da bloody laptop!! bootmgr was compressed it said, then it was a black screen, my advice? go into command prompt on a working windows 7/vista laptop e.g. your friends computer… and type in recdisc.exe follow the instructions to add the recovery stuff and youre all set

p.s the cd/dvd must not be formatted yet!
p.p.s make sure the boot order in bios is the dvd/cd drive

    28. my asus n53j series laptop crashes. the problem has progressively worsened. when tried to make back up discs always received error message and discs were not created. will your software or any other software you can recommend diagnose and fix this problem. it appears to be some sort of a driver conflict. however, i have very, very limited experience with this stuff. Thanks for your help

    29. You guys are awesome. I have researched this issue for days and finally a download that does exactly what it says it does. You just have to follow the directions to a tee but when you do the fix is so fast you wonder why you didn’t find it days ago. Thank you and this is well worth the 9.95.

    30. crashed my laptop (accidently) internet works but my computer corrupts on reinstalling itunes or when i connect anything to my computer will this recovery disc work

    31. My first choice of repair disk allowed me to copy files from the ‘dead’ laptop to a USB drive but couldn’t fix the problem.
Technical support gave me the 32 bit Windows 7 recovery and the laptop is alive again!
I recommend these discs very highly and technical support is excellent
