Disk for recovery & repair

If you’re like most PC users, you probably got Windows Vista with a new PC or laptop. And if you’re like 99% of the population, you get your new machines from one of the major manufacturers.

Dell, Acer, HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, they all have one thing in common: they don’t give you a real Windows Vista installation disk with your purchase.

Instead, they bundle what they call a “recovery disk” (that’s if you’re lucky – otherwise you’ll have a recovery partition instead) with your machine and leave it at that.

It doesn’t matter that you just paid a thousand dollars for a machine that comes with a valid Windows Vista license – your computer manufacturer just don’t want to spend the money (or perhaps take on the responsibility) of giving you a Windows Vista installation DVD to accompany your expensive purchase.

The problem is, with Windows Vista, the installation media serves more than one purpose. It’s not just a way to get Windows installed, it’s also the only way of recovering a borked installation.

The DVD has a “recovery center” that provides you with the option of recovering your system via automated recovery (searches for problems and attempts to fix them automatically), rolling-back to a system restore point, recovering a full PC backup, or accessing a command-line recovery console for advanced recovery purposes.

    1. i need Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5044 Recovery Disk Set can anyone one help with a dl link?

    2. Have the same problem several others have had – burned the Vista Recovery disk with no problem using IMG on another computer. Then when I put in in the DVD drive and it tries to boot from there, I can get to the first screen and click on the “Repair your computer” option, but then all it gives me is a screen saying to select the operating system to repair, except NO operating systems are listed. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this not the correct option? I was really hopeful this would solve my problem . . .

    3. please get the download back up soon this is one of my last hopes to get my laptop back working

    6. I have got the machine to recognize the iso and it asks me to hit any key to boot from CD/DVD but then just brings me to my recovery manager screen with the same options instead of bringing me to startup repair.

    9. Can anyone point me to the download link? I had fresh installed to windows 7 but need to downgrade to vista again and my recovery partition is not recognized in win7 (win7 would b an easy recovery since I bought it after the fact)

Otherwise would someone be able to point me in a direction (other than buying hp’s recovery disks for an OS I no longer use) to locate a recovery disk set usable cross manufacturer

    12. I hope we can get back the download link. A lot of people have been asking already.

    13. I made a doantion for the Vista recovery disk and did not recieve the file, ripped off

    14. I also made donation yesterday for Vista recovery disk but I did not receive any link for download. It is not fair to ask for donation without posibility to download recovery disk or any previous advice.

    15. @RK & Romi, didn’t you read the line that says “Downloads have suspended pending copyright clarification.”? You weren’t ripped off. Read the whole article.

    16. I’m unemloyed now but I would like to donate something but I only have paypal

    17. I did make donation and hope recovery disc download will be available again soon. Any chance you could email me a link?

    18. In Windows7 it’s possible to create a system recovery disc by clicking the start button then typing “recdisk.exe” (without quotation marks) and finally following instructions of the wizard.

I think the disc can then be used for Vista as well (not sure though, never tested).

    19. I really think Microsoft should rethink their Licensing policy.Windows 7 pro shouldn’t be over 100 dollars and their EULA is so hard to understand. It’s almost like you don’t even “own” your copy that you bought with your own money! try reading their EULA.as far as the computer side of it,yeah they are very Anti-trust because for one,IE has been ingrained in the core of the OS since Windows 95,Its a part of the Operating System. You cant uninstall it!

      thats just my 2 cents!

    20. My Goodness. You all look like bumch of ignorants. Just educate yourself if you want to use such repair disks. Reading your comments makes me sick. Before using computers just read the manual or take some lessons. Of cour you cannot illigal copies of systems etc.

    21. alright so i find a vid on youtube im like dam this might finally help me it been two week now without my computer i come to this website and it say i can no longer download it beacuase of copyright issues got dammit help! please

    22. To the M$ mouthpiece ‘SHOCKED’ …. If you have nothing to contribute shut the fuck up. You have no idea how or why the readers came to this page for help. You’re like M$ ACCUSING paying customers of stealing their product. Alot of these readers bought computers that didn’t come with disks. They didn’t know any better and I am now bored with you Piss off..

The problem is M$ hurried another OS to try and beat APPLE and they FAILED again just like Windows ME a complete flop.

    23. The microsoft website has some information about these disks and says to talk to the manufacturer of your computer (HP, Sony, etc) to get replacement disks.

    24. where’s the link to burn the recovery disc? i’m on the site but its not here… T-T I accidentally compressed my bootmgr and I need to be able to fix it but the file isn’t here for me to even do so …
